In Argentina, a case I recently learned about has resurfaced, and it's heartbreaking no matter how you look at it: a mother repeatedly reported the bullying her son was suffering, and when she felt no one was responding to her pleas for help, she went to the school, entered the classroom, and assaulted the alleged bully. The video of the incident circulated on social media and reopened an uncomfortable discussion about school violence, institutional inaction, and the line between protecting and attacking.

When Pain Explodes

I can't deny that I understand that mother's fury. Seeing a child suffer bullying, feel ignored by the school, and repeatedly encounter lukewarm or nonexistent responses can push anyone to the brink of emotional collapse.

There's a point where helplessness turns into rage, and rage into an impulsive act that is later difficult to defend.

What to Do and What Not to Do

Understanding her reaction is not the same as condoning it. Legally and morally, I cannot openly support someone taking the law into their own hands and physically assaulting a minor, no matter how serious the preceding context may have been.

Violence does not solve bullying; it adds another wound, another traumatic scene, and yet another problem for a school community that was already failing.

The System's Failure

The most serious aspect of this story is not just the beating, but everything that preceded it. If a mother feels she had to explode publicly to be heard, then something failed beforehand: the school, the supervision, the protocols, and also the response of the authorities.

Bullying should never reach the point of becoming a viral video. When that happens, there have almost always been warning signs ignored for far too long.

Between Rage and the Law

I also think it's easy to imagine the desire to defend a child tooth and nail, especially when one feels that the system protects the aggressor more than the victim. But understanding that impulse is one thing, and applauding it as if it were justice is quite another. While I admit that in some circumstances justice and revenge are dangerously close, managing to apply the former without succumbing to the demons of vengeful madness is the challenge that defines and distinguishes a civilized response.

This contradiction raises a difficult question: how many people are emotionally torn between condemning the aggression and feeling relief when they see it brought down on the perpetrators?

Things for Thought

This case shouldn't be used to celebrate a beating, but rather to confront what happens when bullying becomes normalized and institutions arrive late or never arrive at all. I hope the anger this story provokes will be channeled into something useful: more listening, more prevention, and a greater real commitment to those who suffer in silence.

Because protecting a child is a profound human need, but a healthy society should not force a desperate mother to choose between submitting to fear or resorting to violence to protect her family.
