Motivation may be overrated sometimes, but there truly are times when certain situations happen to us call for it. There are times when we just want to lie down in bed doing nothing feeling uninspired and unmotivated. We sometimes need that extra push to make a life-changing decision.
An extra push can make us want to stand upright and push forward. The push might come from a motivational post on social media, a story from someone, watching a movie, or even a reading from books.
I have felt so unmotivated numerous times in my life and I didn't just want to do anything just stay indoors and be in bed all day but there is this particular day that changed everything for me, I won't forget such in a hurry.
Back then, when I was trying to get admission into the university after secondary school, I wrote J. A. M . B. three consecutive times, wrote post U. M. E., and the school wasn't offering me the course I wanted to study. I was getting the likes of C. R. S., Linguistics, and French when I wanted to study fine and applied arts. I reached the cut-off mark though so I don't know what happened. My Nigerian people will understand they do this in most universities.
At this point, I was already getting frustrated, feeling unmotivated that any course I got this fourth time of writing J. A. M. B and post-U. M. E. Again I will just take it, especially when I know that most of my classmates are already in the university and I was still at home.
I was so uninspired that I wasn't even reading or going to any examination classes because I was fed up already. I met a guy at the office where I bought my form I couldn't believe it when he told me that this exam would be his sixth and that he was not giving up anytime soon because he wanted to study medicine and they kept giving him those science related courses and he kept rejecting them like I was doing, taking J.A.M.B again hoping to land his dream course.
Well, I told him that I had given up already and that I'd take
any course given to me this time. He told me a lot of soul-lifting words that this examination might just be the deal breaker and that I shouldn't lose hope just like that. Then he made a quote and I can still remember it today
"Don't give up now, you've come too far!". And I pondered on his words when I got home
He motivated me on that particular day, His story lifted my spirit and I decided to stand up. That little story motivated and ignited a fire within me pushed me to take action and brought me to where I am today a proud graphic artist.
It is important to note that sometimes, motivation is not something we rely solely on external sources. We can not always wait for something or someone to push us. We just have to push ourselves to get to our destination.
