While I was on my Aegean journey, I always remembered the taste of olive oil dishes, fresh seafood and vegetables produced by the local people. And of course, those magnificent bays where blue and green embrace each other have always fascinated me.
Ege yolculuğuna çıkarken zeytinyağlı yemekleri, taze deniz ürünleri ve yöresel halkın kendi ürettikleri sebzelerin tadı hep aklımda kalmıştır. Birde tabi, maviyle yeşilin kucaklaştığı o muhteşem koylar beni her seferinde büyülemiştir.
It brings me great joy to meet new people and discover new places in the Aegean—a region whose different facets I uncover with every journey I take. The locations shown in the photos are Ölüdeniz, situated in the Fethiye district of Muğla province, and the surrounding natural wonders. I visit this area almost every summer, drawn particularly by its proximity to the Butterfly Valley and the Lycian Way. Ölüdeniz resembles a shallow coastal lagoon; it is surrounded by islands and separated from the open sea by sandbars and natural formations, yet it maintains a partial connection to the sea. While the Aegean waters can become choppy due to winter winds, Ölüdeniz remains a peaceful, sheltered haven thanks to the islands along its coastline.

Fotoğraflarda gördüğünüz yerler Muğla ilinin Fethiye ilçesindeki Ölüdeniz ve çevresindeki doğal güzelliklerdir. Özellikle Kelebekler Vadisi ve Likya yoluna yakınlığı nedeniyle buraya neredeyse her yaz geliyorum. Ölüdeniz, etrafı adalarla çevrilmiş olan, denizden kumul seti ve doğal oluşumlarla ayrılmış, denizle bağlantısı kısmen devam eden sığ kıyı gölüne benzemektedir. Ege Bölgesi kışın rüzgarlar nedeniyle dalgalı olurken, Ölüdeniz, kıyı şeridinde bulunan adalar sayesinde korunaklı bir bölge olarak huzurlu olmaktadır.
One of the things that makes the Aegean special to me is its people. I have found the people I encountered in the many places I visited to be tolerant, open-minded, and hospitable. Amidst a lifestyle shaped by agriculture and the sea, they strive to live in harmony with nature while also upholding their social and cultural values. Perhaps what truly conveys the warmth of the Aegean—beyond its natural beauty—is the way its people lead balanced and simple lives.
Benim için Ege'yi özel kılan şeylerden biri de insanları...Gezdiğim bir çok yerde karşılaştığım insanları hoşgörülü, açık fikirli ve misafirperver olduklarını gördüm. Tarımın ve denizin şekillendirdiği bu yaşamın içinde insanlar, doğayla uyum bir hayat sürdürmeye çalışıyorlar. Bunun yanında sosyal ve kültürel değerlerine de sahip çıkıyorlar. Belki de Ege'nin sıcaklığını hissettiren şey, doğal güzelliklerin yanısıra, insanlarının da hayatı dengeli ve sade yaşamasıdır.
As you travel through the Aegean region, you may notice how the geographical features and climatic conditions have shaped settlement patterns. This way of life has led many people to turn to agriculture; in front of many homes, it is common to see small gardens, a few fruit trees, or the vegetables and fruits they cultivate. The houses themselves stand out, constructed from stone and adobe in a way that reflects the region's natural character. White-washed stone houses—often featuring doors and windows painted blue—create such a beautiful scene along the narrow streets that one feels as though they are journeying back to a nostalgic era.
Ege Bölgesi'nde gezerken coğrafyanın sunduğu imkanlar ve iklim koşullarının yerleşim biçimini de şekillendirdiğini fark edebilirsiniz. Bu yaşam tarzı insanların çoğuna tarıma yönlendirmiş. Birçok evin önünde küçük bir bahçe, birkaç meyve ağacı ya da yetiştirdikleri sebze ve meyveleri görmek mümkün. Evlerde ise bölgesinin doğal dokusunu yansıtan taş ve kerpiçten yapılmış evler göze çarpıyor. Beyaz badanalı taş evler, daha çok maviye boyanmış kapı ve pencereler dar sokaklarda öyle bir güzel görüntü oluşturuyor ki; insan nostaljik bir zamanda yoculuk yaptığını hissediyor.
Once, while passing through a village square in the Aegean region, I stumbled upon a wedding. Aegean music is full of cheerful and spirited tunes; however, especially in rural areas, soulful and emotional melodies also feature prominently. One of the region's most well-known folk music genres is the zeybek. A zeybek dance was being performed at the wedding. It is a dance style characterized by slow, majestic movements and is performed more frequently by men. Instruments such as the baglama and clarinet are used in the zeybek dance.
Bir keresinde Ege'de bir köy meydanından geçerken, düğüne rastladım. Ege miziği neşeli ve coşkulu ezgilerle dolu... Bunun yanında özellikle kırsal kesimlerde içli ve duygusal melodilere de yer veriliyor. Bölgenin en bilinen halk müzik türlerinden biri de zeybektir. Düğümde zeybek dansı yapılıyordu. Özellikle erkekler arasında daha sık oynanır. Ağır ve görkemli hareketlerle oynanan bir dans türüdür. Zeybek dansında bağlama ve klarnet kullanıyorlar.
As I mentioned at the outset, one cannot overlook olive oil and olives when discussing the Aegean Region. Olives and olive oil hold a significant place in the Aegean, both culturally and economically. Thanks to the region's olive trees, high-quality olive oil is produced and exported—not only within Türkiye but also to the rest of the world.
Ege Bölgesinden bahsederken başta da belirtiğim gibi zeytinyağı ve zeytini unutmamak gerekir. Ege'de hem kültürel hem de ekonomik açıdan zeytin ve zeytinyağı önemli bir yere sahiptir. Bölgedeki zeytin ağaçları sayesinde sadece Türkiye'de değil dünyada da kaliteli zeytinyağı üretimi yapılarak, ihracat sağlanıyor.
We must accept that the Aegean has its own unique spirit in every corner of this region, which reflects a rich culture of life with a deep-rooted history in the west of Türkiye and has hosted different civilizations together for centuries.
