Pero la astucia no es su única virtud, al tener que defender la valla con una defensa tan adelantada, ha mostrado tener un tremendo 1 vs 1, evitando varios goles casi cantados ya que no tiene miedo de salir del área chica para achicar espacios de tiro. Esos reflejos también le ayudan para llegar y bloquear tiros lejanos, siendo esto algo que destacó más cuando aún vestía de perico, pues con los culés, el porcentaje de disparos lejanos en contra es más bajo.

Algo en lo que si mejora a otros porteros del Barcelona recientes es su gran juego aéreo, ya que al medir 1,93mts, suele salir a cortar muchos centros laterales, y en los corners, sabe medir muy bien el timing para saber cuando buscar el balón o guardar la posición. Por contra parte, aunque su juego de pies es bastante bueno, no se puede comparar con la precisión de otros como ter Stegen, además de que su pie izquierdo no es tan delicado para conectar con sus compañeros, y aún le falta pulir sus pases en largo.
One area where he surpasses other recent Barcelona goalkeepers is his excellent aerial game. Standing at 1.93 meters, he frequently comes out to intercept crosses, and on corners, he has excellent timing, knowing when to go for the ball or hold his position. On the other hand, while his footwork is quite good, it can't be compared to the precision of others like ter Stegen. Furthermore, his left foot isn't as delicate for connecting with teammates, and he still needs to refine his long passes.
Viéndolo globalmente en el contexto de su club, es posiblemente uno de los mejores porteros para cubrir este puesto, ya que cuenta con características idóneas para responder ante la forma tan particular que tienen los equipos para atacar al Barcelona, y aunque esa salida adelantada a veces suele ser solución para cortar un ataque rival, a veces se ha visto que todavía le falta afinar un poco mejor su timimg.
Looking at him globally in the context of his club, he is possibly one of the best goalkeepers to fill this position, as he has ideal characteristics to respond to the very particular way teams attack Barcelona, and although that advanced positioning is sometimes a solution to cut off a rival attack, sometimes it has been seen that he still needs to fine-tune his timing a little better.
Este excelente año ya le ha ganado muchas alabanzas de parte de la afición, así como del mundo general del fútbol, ganando también premios como el guante de oro de La Liga por ser el portero menos batido, lo que provocó la reconsideración de De La Fuente, llevándolo a la Copa del Mundo, después de que muchos pensáramos que lo dejaría por fuera. La próxima temporada luce como la de confirmación en la élite, y ya con un proyecto consolidado de Flick en la ciudad condal, se espera que el próximo año también este lleno de premios individuales y colectivos por parte del guardameta.
