It's amazing how many small actions we can do for the environment and speaking of reusing, I have a particular phrase: "This is good for something". My children already know that this is my phrase for something to go to my magic drawer. But that drawer stayed in Venezuela, from there my children found a solution for anything and even for their school work. Seriously, a piece that seemed useless could be useful for me and I knew it would be useful for something. Even pen caps I would save them because I would say in my mind, that could be used to build a post. When you are creative you can be useful to the planet.
I no longer have that drawer here in Colombia, but somehow I have been able to put into practice my habits of reuse and more than in this country I am attending to the health of my youngest son, then it is very beneficial to reuse things, so much so that even our pocket feels the relief.
I chose to show you some objects that after giving them a second chance are very useful in this place where we live now and I start with these Starbucks containers that I use to store my medicinal herbs for infusions.
My oldest son took me and his brother and I to that coffee shop a few days after we arrived in this country and of course I didn't throw the containers away but kept them as souvenirs, giving them a new use.
In this one I keep sprigs of lemon balm and spearmint. I've been blessed because I got a house where they have them and they've given them to me, so these containers are perfect because they have a hole in the top, so the plants dry with ventilation without getting mold.
In this other one I keep sachets of marigold, for now, because sometimes I put sachets of other medicinal plants in it.
And in the last one I keep dried arnica leaves.
An empty box of guava snacks serves me well for holding turmeric. Look how it has sprouted in the box.
For now I don't have plants but I make the attempt to have my own and I make use of empty containers of products that we have already consumed.
As I want to grow my own plants I am starting to use some natural husks to make my own compost, as I did also in my country. First I put them to dry in this anime tray where other foods that you buy come.
Then I move them to another container where I have other shells. It occurred to me to cut a slit in an empty plastic bottle and adapt it to be a small compost garbage can.
With the piece that came out of the cut, it occurred to me to use it as a tool to move the shells.
Ice cream containers are very useful and as I did in Venezuela I also do here in Colombia taking advantage of some, like this one where we keep the dough for the arepas.
Although I'm not supposed to drink coffee, sometimes I treat myself to a hot cup and so I have a container to keep coffee powder in. The container I use, was from ice cream in the past.
I present to you my cutlery drainer. A container of a jam we consumed. On the bottom it has holes for the water to drain out.
I heated the tip of a fluted screwdriver on the stove and drilled holes in the container at the base.
A cardboard box is my basket to put my laundry in.
But I was able to give it a special touch with some crayons and markers.
In this little empty ceramic paint container I keep Vaporud. Yes, it turns out that there I had it stored in Venezuela, because my grandmother shared with me from one that had been given to her. Well, I brought it back just as it was and I keep it in the same little pot.
With an old board I set up a space for my son to do his homework and drawings.
With scraps of a red colored paper I lined the edges of the board that were ugly. Now it looks better and has its second chance.
The lid from a swab pot that ran out, I gave it to my son to use as a container when I take tips out of pencils.
We are saving the sawdust from the wooden pencils because they are used for some crafts and we are also saving them for an aunt who used to ask Alan for them to put on her plants. When we go to Venezuela we will bring her a lot of sawdust.
I got an anime on the street, I could tell someone had just put it up for the toilet to take away. Well, Alan just needed one for a billboard he was asked to do for homework at school and I grabbed it because it was clean. Also at home I wiped it with bleach and we used it to make the billboard.
With a paper clip I made a hook to hang it in the room, after she presented it at school.

Es incre铆ble la cantidad de peque帽as acciones que podemos hacer en pro del medio ambiente y hablando de reutilizar, en lo particular tengo una frase: "Esto sirve para algo". Mis hijos ya saben que esa es mi frase para que alguna cosa vaya a parar a mi gaveta m谩gica. Pero esa gaveta qued贸 en Venezuela, de all铆 mis hijos encontraban una soluci贸n para cualquier cosa y hasta para sus trabajos escolares. En serio, un pieza que parec铆a inservible pod铆a ser 煤til para mi y sab铆a que para algo servir铆a. Hasta las tapas de bol铆grafos las guardaba porque dec铆a en mi mente, eso sirve para construir alg煤n poste. Cuando eres creativo puedes ser 煤til al planeta.
Ya no tengo esa gaveta aqu铆 en Colombia, pero de alguna manera he podido poner en pr谩ctica mis costumbres de reutilizaci贸n y m谩s que en este pa铆s estoy atendiendo la salud de mi hijo menor, entonces es muy beneficioso el re煤so de las cosas, tanto es as铆 que hasta nuestro bolsillo siente el alivio.
Eleg铆 mostrarles algunos objetos que luego de darles una segunda oportunidad son muy 煤tiles en este lugar donde vivimos ahora y empiezo por estos envases de Starbucks que uso para guardar mis hierbas medicinales para infusiones.
Mi hijo mayor nos llev贸 a esa cafeter铆a, a su hermano y a m铆, a los pocos d铆as de haber llegado a este pa铆s y por supuesto no desech茅 los envases sino que los guard茅 como recuerdo, d谩ndoles una nueva utilidad.
En este guardo ramitas de toronjil y de hierbabuena. He sido bendecida porque consegu铆 una casa donde las tienen y me han dado, entonces estos envases son perfectos porque ellos tienen un orificio arriba, as铆 que las plantas se secan con ventilaci贸n sin que les nazca moho.
En este otro guardo sobres de cal茅ndula, por ahora, porque a veces le coloco sobres de otras plantas medicinales.
Y en el 煤ltimo guardo hojas secas de 谩rnica.
Una caja vac铆a de bocadillos de guayaba me sirve para tener la c煤rcuma. Miren como ha reto帽ado en la caja.
Por ahora no tengo plantas pero hago el intento para tener las propias y me valgo de envases vac铆os de productos que ya hemos consumido.
Como quiero sembrar mis propias plantas estoy empezando a usar algunas c谩scaras naturales para hacer mi propio compost, como hac铆a tambi茅n en mi pa铆s. Primero las pongo a secar en esta bandeja de anime donde vienen otros alimentos que se compran.
Luego las paso a otro envase donde tengo otras c谩scaras. Se me ocurri贸 hacerle un corte a una botella pl谩stica vac铆a y adaptarla para que sea un peque帽o contenedor de compost.
Con la pieza que sali贸 del corte se me ocurri贸 que sirve para usarla como herramienta para mover las c谩scaras.
Los envases de helado son muy 煤tiles y como hac铆a en Venezuela tambi茅n hago aqu铆 en Colombia aprovechando algunos, como este donde guardamos la masa para las arepas.
Aunque no debo beber caf茅, a veces me doy gusto con una taza caliente y por eso tengo un envase para guardar caf茅 en polvo. El envase que uso, fue de un helado en el pasado.
Les presento mi escurridor de cubiertos. Un envase de una mermelada que consumimos. En la parte de abajo tiene orificios para que escurra el agua.
Calent茅 en la estufa la punta de un destornillado de estr铆a y le hice agujeros al envase en la base.
Una caja de cart贸n es mi canasta para colocar la ropa sucia.
Pero le pude dar un toque especial con algunos l谩pices de colores y marcadores.
En este peque帽o envase vac铆o de pintura de cer谩mica guardo Vaporud. Si, resulta que all铆 lo ten铆a guardado en Venezuela, porque mi abuela comparti贸 conmigo de uno que le hab铆an regalado. Pues me lo traje tal cual y lo conservo en el mismo potecito.
Con una tabla vieja le acondicion茅 a mi hijo un espacio para que haga sus tareas escolares y dibujos.
Con retazos de un papel de color rojo forre los bordes de la tabla que estaban feos. Ahora luce mejor y tiene su segunda oportunidad.
La tapa de un pote de hisopos que se acab贸, se la di a mi hijo para que la use de recipiente cuando le saque puntas a los l谩pices.
El aserr铆n de los l谩pices de madera los guardamos porque eso sirve para alguna manualidad y tambi茅n los estamos guardando a una t铆a que se los ped铆a a Alan para ponerle a sus plantas. Cuando vayamos a Venezuela le llevaremos bastante aserr铆n.
Consegu铆 un anime en la calle, se notaba que alguien acababa de colocarlo para que se lo llevara el aseo. Pues justo Alan necesita uno para una cartelera que le pidieron de tarea en la escuela y lo agarr茅 porque estaba limpiecito. Igualmente en la casa le pas茅 un pa帽ito con cloro y lo usamos para hacer la cartelera.
Con un clip hice un gancho para colgarla en la habitaci贸n, luego que la present贸 en la escuela.
All铆 colgada, podemos ver la m谩xima nota que sac贸 con su cartelera hecha con un anime encontrado en calle. 馃檭

Para terminar y no hacer m谩s larga mi presentaci贸n, tambi茅n reuso botellas de agua que en alg煤n momento se han comprado. Las tengo para llevar agua en mi bolso cuando tengo que salir de casa. Me gusta las que son peque帽as, como esta que no pesa casi. Mi hijo tambi茅n las usa para llevar el agua y el jugo a la escuela.
