Hello, my dear friends of hive!
I come to my other special home Holos&Lotus and I thank this perfect moment in every way to my friend @esthersanchez who made me an invitation several weeks ago to open my heart on a topic proposed by the lovely
@mosa71 in an initiative she prescribed five days ago, as you can see here. However, I have decided to make a valuable parenthesis and attend to a topic that is very interesting.
Well, I have several initiatives and invitations on my agenda to attend to and the time has come to dedicate my attention to this one, although it has already passed, but I give myself permission because the topic is about the role of the caregiver and focused with special emphasis on the mother on the occasion of her day, which has also already passed. It seems that everything has already passed, but well, as a mother and caregiver, time passes me by many times and I leave aside some things that are also important to me.
Yes, as I said at the beginning the proposed topic is very interesting and it is that I have not always been for me, as an individual being. As a mother, daughter, sister, wife, student and professional, I have had several responsibilities that logically must be assumed and of course I have also fallen into that of believing myself indispensable. This thought is very destructive because it is like we believe that the sun stops shining if we are not at the forefront of everything, what a terrible mistake, because the truth is that when I die the world will not stop, it will not stop turning, life on the planet will not end when I leave everything and everyone.
Making and giving guidance
For realizing that I cannot believe myself indispensable is that I learned to "do" but "guiding" at the same time and it is liberating, besides that I give them the opportunity for growth, problem solving, personal development, advancement, independence and to become useful people and not burdens for others, I say this as a mother of two sons that I love very much and the best way to show it is to train them for life. My conviction also applies in all spaces and with all people who have the capacity to reason. That is, according to my position, pets, tiny babies and people who are severely compromised to learn and to do are excluded.
Kid glove and iron glove
This is something I learned and fixed forever in my mind, during a talk given to a group of parents of children with autism at the Central Society for Autistic Children Foundation (Fundasocenia), in Maracay, led by its director Nora Diaz. She used the expression: "You have to educate them with a silk glove in one hand and an iron glove in the other", she said this to the parents present so that we would understand that we have to give a lot of love but without making a mistake believing that children with special needs should not be educated. She talked about the importance of correction combined with love and firmness, of the demands they should receive and the training to channel those emotions that when uncontrolled easily end up in tantrums.
When I went to that talk I only had my oldest son, my first and only child at the time, who was a two year old toddler with a diagnosis of autism just given. I am one of those who welcomes everything good and even more if it is for the good of my children and that is how I decided to raise my oldest son with kid gloves and iron gloves. I put into practice everything that I was guided and adapted them to my son according to his answers and so we grew together and so were many days, processes, strong episodes that we lived and overcame together. This allowed me to enjoy my son and not see him as a stressful burden, his responsible training paid off and every year it was easier to take care of him because he became more independent, which also allowed me to have time to watch a movie at home, for example.
Do I do more than I can or want to?
This question I ask myself every time I say I do more than I can, because there is also another thing, and that is to do as much as I want. With two children, an older one who no longer depends on me and a younger one who still does, it is unacceptable that I confuse my need for rest with laziness, everything has to have a balance, including free time but also my need to be aware of everything. Sure, as women we are endowed with a lot of stamina, that is indisputable. However, I do not deny that there are many times when I can feel physical and even mental fatigue, no matter how much spiritual strength I am equipped with.
But precisely, as a blue mom, I have learned thanks to the training I have received from autism specialists, that as caregivers we must also take care of ourselves and that we must love our children and act for them with conscience and not out of emotion, driven by compassion or pity. So by being clear, I live consciously choosing how far I want to and can go.
A time for me
The above brings me to this point, because wanting to do what is right for my children, allows me to enjoy, now yes, better time for me. Independence in their lives is a trophy that fills me with pride, although I still have the youngest, 11 years old, with some emotional needs to overcome and with a delicate problem in his eyesight, which gave us an assault on tranquility, but against all bad prognosis we are marching forward.
Talking again about the upbringing and preparation I try to do for my children, by the way the oldest is already a 24 year old adult who has spread his wings completely freely and being ready for the task fills me with satisfaction and allows me more relaxation. My children have received the training with love but without pity or pampering, so they have been achieving independence, they are climbing in life, they have overcome when most still see autism as a burden, but instead for me it has been the best thing that has happened to me and if I could have more children I would ask that they are with the autism spectrum. I have been able to give my children training and they have given it to me, I was not always so balanced but the experience is polishing the diamond that I am until I bring out my best shine.
