It came as a shock to me when I realised that individuals or should I say platforms on steemit do decline payout.
When I first saw that option in the advanced section, I thought to myself
No one's going to use this
I get it, some of these platforms are steemit's but all the same, it seems like a shame to let all that money disappear when there are people who would be forever in their debts if they were gifted this.I most definitely fall within that category.
Fine, they might not be opportuned to know how badly someone somewhere needs that money they just turned away, but what happened to organising contests and challenges were contestants get rewarded. If nothing else, this would help create awareness and induce enthusiasm in fellow steemians.
But back to the side of this issue that greatly concerns me; the charity aspect. I know this sounds cliche but my life would definitely be better if I had enough to cater for my basic needs. It feels weird being hopelessly in need yet see money thrown away as if it does not matter.
In the long run it doesn't, sure! But right now, people are out there who would have a better life if they had access to funds like that.
And like I said earlier, I fall within this category.
I see students in school who have to struggle every day to ensure they have the means to remain in school.
I walk down the streets and see kids who are out there, engaging in backbreaking jobs, kids crying and following you as you walk down, all because they have had nothing to eat all day.
My case may not be as critical as that, but it is bad enough to keep me up at night, wondering how my tomorrow will be.
So when I see payouts being declined, I almost feel like screaming
Can't you see I'm in need?
To be honest, they probably didn't know. So the fault is not theirs. It is mine, for not asking, for not yelling this out.
So I'm taking this medium to say that before you decline that payout next time, think about some of us who are not so privileged.
