I just had to show you this and we have both cheese lovers and insect lovers here. Oh, and a seed eater.
First we will see a little cheese lover Cape White-eye, then a Malachite in a strange setting, and finally a Yellow Bishop eating grass seeds.
As some of you know by now, we have a wide variety of local birds and now in the Spring season all of the migratory birds are also returning to come and breed in Summer. So this adds to the numbers of bird species, and I only hope that the last year will be repeated, and that I will get a lot of new birds on camera again.
But for now, come and have a look at these little ones feasting.
Somehow, they know Marian now and they never miss the table at the open restaurant where she sits, even if the place is packed with people.
Then they pop down from the trees above onto the table and chitter their requests for cheese.
Now I am used to getting the Malachite sunbird on the Protea pincushion bushes, but I have never catching an insect on the paving. And so I was delighted to see this.
This is a Yellow-bishop foraging next to a stream in a field.
You can see that he was enjoying the grass seeds.
Just another variety of birds. So nice to see the sun warming up the grass stalks and the ground, with the birds, insects, lizards and creatures so happy to bask in the sunlight. In fact, early this morning when the first bird call sounded out in gratitude for the new day, I was standing outside and ever so gradually the other birds started to wake up and it turned into a chorus. Lovely to hear the bird world awakening and the nice thing is that they all wake up in song.
I think that all of us should start to try to wake up in song in the mornings. It just might change our lives.
