We are now nearing the peak of summer here in South Africa, and some inland areas are already in the 40Cs.
It's even hot in the shade, and I don't even want to talk about the hot nights.
2 days ago, the South-Easter wind, known as the "Cape Doctor" was blowing, and at Agulhas and some other Cape coastal towns, it was clocked at 50 kilometers per hour.
It blew the morning clouds over like kites on steroids, and it was dangerous for pedestrians to walk about, as a full-frontal blast of wind can topple one like a strand of grass.
Sadly elsewhere, like in the KZN province, heavy rain and floods have killed people again, and they are far worse off than us.
Before I show you the squirrel, this Guinea fowl family below rushed out of the shade when I stopped the car to take a photo of them. Fortunately, there's many other shady trees around.
I was just too late to get her hanging over the side to take a drink.
But then a big surprise, as she came bouncing over in my direction.
I was standing in the shade next to a tree, and she scampered up the trunk of the tree to look down at me near the top of the tree. She gave that "go away" look, and I did just that, as a cup of coffee was waiting for me.
About 20 minutes later.
My wife always finds a table at the Coffee Roastery on the wine farm and then she waits for to come and drink a coffee. Afterwards we leave together, and I normally follow the same route back to the car. So, we passed under the same tree and there the squirrel was. High up and fully stretched out in the luxurious shade.
Then I took this final close up shot, and we were out of there.
So, if you want to know how to relax on a very hot day, the squirrel here shows you how to do it. First, drink a lot of fluids to prevent dehydration. Then find a shady spot and lay down fully stretched out. No, no, not on your stomach with your arms and your legs wide open like the squirrel, as if you lay on the grass under a shady tree, some dogs may want to come and give you a greeting sniff in your lower region:)
Only joking a bit, and today we saw some people putting sun lotion on their skins and laying out in the blazing sun on stretchers around a pool. Sheer madness, as a tanned brown skin looks lovely, but later in life when the 60s and older arrive, the skin shrinks and changes into hundreds of pleats. Skin cancer is also a great danger, and one must simply not take any chances,
But like I always say, such is life.
I hope you enjoyed the pictures.
