The little guy was busy all morning burying nuts.
Even Robbie the Cape Robin-chat bird behind him was surprised to see this.
At first I thought that the squirrel was ill, as this has never happened before in one of our pot plants. But as usual I decided to wait and to see what happens.
Definitely not an ordinary sight as I have seen the squirrels napping high in the trees, but he must have felt very secure to nap on the ground.
Come and follow the story.
He had a nut and was on his way to plant it.
Jumped into the second pot and planted the nut. You can see the long little plants in the pots that are peanut plants previously planted by the squirrels.
Planting done and now to fetch the next nut.
On his way back and Robbie arrived at the back, as he must have noticed something that I didn't know.
But no, change of mind and Robbie kept on watching.
Back into the front pot and look at that quizzical tilt of Robbie's head at the back.
And finally taking a quick nap. I bet that Robbie knew that something like this was going to happen.
So yes, I waited to see what would happen and the little young squirrel laid like that for a few minutes. Had he kept on napping I would have gone to stir him up, but there were no cats around. Just so amazed to see this as it was totally out of character. Maybe he laid down in the pot to make sure that his smell will tell the other squirrels that the pots belonged to him. But not to worry, as soon he was up and at it again.
We were just happy that he was not ill.
