This dove was sleeping in the hot sun, but he was sleeping in the way of another critter.
A very hot day here in Africa and even the crows were yawning. I will show you some sun tanning photos in our garden. No, it's not my wife half naked in a bikini, but rather our local dove residents.
So pop in and take a look,
Bang! The squirrel decided to power right through the dove.
Another Ringneck dove soaking his feathers in the sunlight.
Meantime the little squirrel found his resting spot in our garden.
This guy decided to fall asleep in the Robin's water plate.
And finally, a Turtle dove and two Ringneck doves all 3 in the same action.
Oh, before I forget, these are not ordinary Ringneck doves, as they are in fact Red-eyed Doves (Streptopelia semitorquata), the biggest of the Ringneck doves.
And so you have just seen what the doves do on a very hot day here in South Africa. The hotter the sun, the thicker the blood and a sluggish blood circulation automatically draws the eyes closed to slumber.
Luckily I take blood thinning tablets and for some reason I cannot sleep ever since youth when it's daylight.
