A Pencil Holder made of Pure Paper【 🇪🇸 - 🇺🇸 】

Si vieron el video antes de echarle un ojo a mi post, notarán que primero hacen tiras de papel con las cuales hacen palitos y luego arman un exágono usando el arte del origami y luego hacen las tiras de papel para luego enrollarlas. Yo quise empezar por las tiras de papel. Ya que es lo que daba más trabajo.

Usé como 10 hojas de papel extraoficio y a cada una le hice unos pequeños rectángulos con las medidas 5 x 30 cm, luego las recorté cada una y obtuve un total de 66 tiras de papel.

If you watched the video before checking out my post, you'll notice that they first make strips of paper, which they then use to make sticks. Next, they assemble a hexagon using origami techniques, and then they make more paper strips to roll them up. I wanted to start with the paper strips since that was the most time-consuming part.

I used about 10 sheets of non-legal paper and cut small rectangles measuring 5 x 30 cm on each one. Then I cut each rectangle out, resulting in a total of 66 paper strips.

Aquí pueden observar las 66 tiras de papel. Ahora, con la ayuda de un palillo o palito de altura, se enrollan las tiras de una esquina a otra formando una vara de papel. Esto fue lo que me llevó más trabajo, ya que no tenía práctica.

Here you can see the 66 strips of paper. Now, using a toothpick or stick, roll the strips from one corner to the other, forming a paper rod. This was the hardest part for me, as I wasn't used to it.

Luego de enrollarlo por completo, antes de terminar, agregas un poco de pegamento en barra o blanco y listo, sellas la vara de papel. Ya después sólo debes repetir el proceso muchas veces hasta terminarlas todas.

After rolling it completely, before finishing, add a little glue stick or white glue, and that's it, you've sealed the paper stick. Then you just have to repeat the process many times until you've finished them all.

Aquí pueden ver cómo me iban quedando, unas más largas que otras y otras más anchas que algunas. En fin, quedaron desprolijas y está bien si no te salen exactamente igual todas. A mí me dio cringe ver cómo me quedaron, pero confié en el proceso.

Here you can see how they were turning out, some longer than others, and some wider than others. Anyway, they ended up looking messy, and that's okay if they don't all come out the same. I cringeworthy when I saw how they turned out, but I trusted the process.

Ya aquí las había terminado todas y me sentí muy orgullosa de mí misma por haber culminado con éxito la primera parte de esta manualidad. Como quería hacerlo colorido pero mis hojas sólo eran blancas, quise agregarles un poco de color usando una pintura al frío que tenía guardada desde hacía un buen tiempo, así que empecé a pintar cada varita de papel.

I had already finished them all and felt very proud of myself for completing the first part of this craft. Since I wanted to make it colorful but my paper was only white, I decided to add some color using acrylic paint that I had stored away for quite some time, so I started painting each paper wand.

Empecé pintándolas una por una y, como vi que iba a tardar mucho, opté por colocarlas todas sobre otra hoja de papel, de manera paralela unas con otras, y empecé a pintarlas con el pincel, de forma agrupada, primero por un lado y luego por el otro. Me divertí bastante en esta etapa.

I started painting them one by one, and when I saw that it was going to take a long time, I decided to place them all on another sheet of paper, parallel to each other, and I started painting them with the brush, grouping them, first on one side and then on the other. I had quite a bit of fun at this stage.

Una vez pintadas todas las varitas, me dispuse a armar los hexágonos, usando la misma técnica de doblez que usaron en el video de Pinterest. Esta parte no la capturé en fotos porque en el video, como ya les dije, se muestra paso a paso. Se hacen 2 hexágonos más con las varas de papel.

Once all the sticks were painted, I set about assembling the hexagons, using the same folding technique they used in the Pinterest video. I didn't take photos of this part because, as I mentioned, the video shows it step by step. You make two hexagons plus the paper sticks.

Una vez listos todos los elementos, me dispuse a armar la base para mi portalápices. Como pueden ver, se pega una parte de la varita de papel en cada punta del hexágono y una extra al lado de una de esas puntas. Yo me equivoqué y tuve que despegar para agregarla. En la foto les marqué con línea negra dónde iría colocada. Igual en el video se muestra que se colocan 7 tiras en vez de 6.

Once all the elements were ready, I set about assembling the base for my pencil holder. As you can see, a piece of the paper stick is glued to each point of the hexagon, and an extra piece is glued next to one of those points. I made a mistake and had to peel it off to add it. In the photo, I marked with a black line where it should be placed. The video also shows that 7 strips are used instead of 6.

Aquí pueden ver que ya había agregado la varita que me faltaba y ya sólo hay que doblar cada palito hacia arriba, usando de guía la inclinación del lado del hexágono. Esta parte se hace hasta alcanzar la altura deseada. Yo sólo les muestro el inicio. El proceso completo está en el video.

No quise tomar fotos del proceso porque me equivoqué demasiado doblando los palitos; tuve que desarmar el portalápices varias veces hasta que finalmente logré armarlo. No quedó como esperaba; de hecho, se ve ordinario, pero fue lo que obtuve y, para ser la primera vez, creo que lo hice bien.

Here you can see that I had already added the missing stick, and now you just have to bend each stick upwards, using the slant of the hexagon side as a guide. You do this until you reach the desired height. I'm just showing you the beginning. The complete process is in the video.

I didn't want to take pictures of the process because I made too many mistakes bending the sticks; I had to take the pencil holder apart several times before I finally managed to put it together. It didn't turn out as I expected; in fact, it looks ordinary, but it's what I got, and for my first time, I think I did right.

Aquí pueden ver cómo me quedó. Cabe destacar que yo usé medidas más grandes y no las que aparecen en el video. Es decir, para hacer el hexágono, usé una hoja de papel con medidas de 20 x 20 cm y en el video usaron una hoja de papel de 15 x 15 cm. La diferencia no se nota mucho, pero yo quería que mi portapapeles quedara ancho y alto.

Here you can see how mine turned out. It's worth noting that I used larger measurements than those shown in the video. Specifically, to make the hexagon, I used a 20 x 20 cm sheet of paper, while in the video, they used a 15 x 15 cm sheet. The difference isn't very noticeable, but I wanted my clipboard to be both wide and tall.

Y este fue el resultado final. Para esto lo quería: eliminar unos portalápices pequeños y agrupar todo en uno más grande para ahorrar espacio.

Quiero intentarlo de nuevo y para la próxima no voy a usar pintura al frío, sólo usaré hojas blancas o de colores que tengo guardadas por allí a ver si me sale mejor. También quiero hacer una especie de cofre con este arte de varitas de papel, así que les tengo unas cuantas nuevas ideas para este año.

And this was the final result. This is what I wanted it for: to get rid of some small pencil holders and group everything into one larger one to save space.

I want to try it again, and next time I won't use acrylic paint; I'll just use white or colored paper that I have lying around to see if it turns out better. I also want to make a kind of treasure chest with this paper-wand art, so I have a few new ideas for you this year.
