Mi Diario Actifit: 11 julio 2023 // My Actifit Report Card: July 11 2023
Hola, querido hiver.
¿A quién beneficia?

Hi, dear hiver.
Today we are at the peak of a heat wave. The TV people are a pain in the ass. They're more annoying than the heat itself, and I haven't sweated at times when it's forty degrees in the shade! I'm amazed at the mania they all have for anticipating, for transmitting fear, for keeping us in a state of perpetual anxiety. Who benefits? Because it certainly doesn't benefit ordinary people who have to provide for their families through their work.
My curiosity in matters of mystery has led me to learn about conspiracy theories from time to time. Some of them are so well elaborated that they almost convince you. I am glad that my academic training and my subsequent professional development help to keep my thinking critical and free of unscientific beliefs. But I am concerned about the level of mass manipulation that is taking place. The media succinctly convey messages in which we are treated as if we were fools and unable to think for ourselves. The sad thing is that, when I talk to acquaintances, I often find this to be the case.
Stoic Quote of the Day
But what does Socrates say? "Just as one enjoys improving his field, and another his horse, so I enjoy day by day perceiving that I am becoming better."
Epictetus.
My reflection
Making myself better every day is enough of a challenge to keep me busy for the rest of my life. It is not always enjoyable. From experience I can say this unashamedly. The road to improvement passes through seasons in which we suffer a lot. We need those tests that challenge us to strengthen the spirit. It is quick to get used to what is pleasant and tortuous to disengage from it.
I feel privileged to have the possibility to work on myself on a daily basis. Others have to find a way to fill their bellies first. I keep this in mind and am infinitely grateful for it. Maybe this is my destiny and I don't know. This is the doubt that torments me the most, whether I will be fulfilling life. But I know that I will never get the answer, because no one has ever succeeded so far and I am only a speck of dust compared to the great geniuses that the world has seen.
Some days I get clues that comfort me. Books are great allies for this. When you read other people's thoughts that portray you, you nourish the hope that you're not sick in the head. That others worried about the same thing centuries ago. That they were unable to change anything because they are man's business because he is man. That you see history repeating itself in an infinite cycle of prosperity and misfortune. That everything will pass as the great empires did.
That is why I agree with Socrates in dedicating myself to improving my perception of myself, trying to enjoy the process regardless of the day it will end. It may be in a few minutes or decades from now, but it will come. And, by then, nothing that worries me today will matter.
