It’s a long weekend in Argentina, which gives us a great opportunity to organize long-distance training rides with the cycling team. It’s very cold right now, so we decided to head out at 8 a.m. to take advantage of the sunrise and, of course, the sunshine.

We really bundled up, but it wasn't enough. I put on a pair of socks, then some nylon bags over my feet, and another pair of socks on top. Under the first layer on my chest, I put on a small, adhesive Ziploc-style bag to block the wind. Gloves and very warm clothing all over. Nothing was enough against the beating we took from the wind, the frost, and the cold everywhere along the way.

Rubén and Damián turned back halfway. They stayed in Cañuelas and got ready to have breakfast, while we initially headed toward Lobos. They were already posting photos in the WhatsApp group. The two brave souls were Gonzalo and yours truly. Chatting along the way, we decided it wasn’t necessary to go all the way to Logos and that we’d only go as far as Uribelarrea. It’s still quite a distance, though, since it’s 91 km.

We arrived at the main entrance to Uribelarrea, but my companion wanted something hot to drink, so we headed 5 km into town. It was around 10 a.m., and the shops were just starting to open in the pretty town of Uribelarrea. We came across a bakery where we always used to have breakfast, but for reasons unknown to us, it was closed. We started walking around and found a man who was just opening his street stall; he told us that if we waited 10 minutes, he’d make us a cup of coffee with milk and an alfajor. Without hesitation, that was the decision we made.

After warming up and fueling up with a few carbs, we set off on our return journey. Even with the sun shining brightly, the temperature still wouldn’t rise. On top of that, it had rained the day before, which is why we couldn’t get down to ground level and just stick to the pavement. And as you know—and as common sense dictates—the pavement is always higher than ground level, so the wind hit us head-on. Uribelarrea is a beautiful town and is always packed with people on long weekends.

My friend Alejandro made a smart decision and got up much later, doing his workout here in Ezeiza, because, as he says, the cold really makes him suffer too much. The plan was to continue training tomorrow, but we decided against it for obvious reasons.
A Sunday of mountain biking, doing what we had to do, but we definitely miss summer.
Have a great day, everyone 🧉
