Cañadon Escondido (Chocón) - Hidden Canyon (Chocón)

Cuando salgo de vacaciones no soy de planificar mucho los horarios en que debemos de llegar a cada sitio ya que me gusta ir descubriendo esas pequeñas maravillas que hay ocultas en el camino.

Tal fue estas últimas vacaciones de verano cuando volvíamos hacia nuestro casa después de más de diez días de paseo por la cordillera donde hicimos varias paradas para conocer esos maravillosos que que muchas veces pasan desapercibidos.

When I go on vacation I do not plan a lot the timetable to get to each place because I like to discover those little wonders that are hidden along the way.

Such was the case this past summer vacation when we were returning home after more than ten days of walking through the mountains where we made several stops to see those wonderful places that often go unnoticed.

Así fue como descubrimos el Cañadón Escondido y las huellas de Dinosaurios muy cerquita del la Villa el Chocón, un pequeño pueblo construido sobre la costa de las centrales hidroeléctricas que provee de energía eléctrica a gran parte del país.

Este sitio lo encontramos de casualidad viendo ya que mi hija mayor vió un cartel sobre la ruta y decidimos parar para ver de que se trataba. También era una muy buena excusa para hacer un alto en el viaje y aprovechar a estirar nuestras piernas después de varias horas de viaje.

That is how we discovered the Cañadón Escondido and the Dinosaur footprints very close to Villa El Chocón, a small town built on the shore of the hydroelectric power plants that provide electricity to a large part of the country.

We found this place by chance as my oldest daughter saw a sign on the road and we decided to stop to see what it was all about. It was also a very good excuse to take a break and stretch our legs after several hours of travel.

Rápidamente buscamos las indicaciones para poder llegar al sitio por el Google Maps, y aunque no había muy buena señal pudimos encontrar el sitio. No teníamos idea a donde nos estábamos dirigiendo, pero después de hacer un breve trayecto sobre un camino marcado por la aridez de la Patagonia, llegamos al sitio.

Allí mi esposa y mi hija menor decidieron quedarse en el auto y con Azul decidimos salir a descubrir este sitio que despertaba nuestro interés. Así comenzamos nuestro camino a campo traviesa en busca de ese sitio que parecería ser prometedor.

We quickly looked for directions to the site on Google Maps, and although there was not a very good signal, we were able to find the site. We had no idea where we were going, but after a short drive on a road marked by the aridity of Patagonia, we arrived at the site.

There my wife and my youngest daughter decided to stay in the car and Azul and I decided to go out to discover this site that aroused our interest. So we began our cross-country journey in search of this site that seemed to be promising.

Después de caminar unos minutos campo adentro encontramos ese Cañadon en medio de la espeta Patagónica que si bien comenzaba con un desnivel no tan grande, para ingresar debíamos descender al menos cuatro metros para poder adentrarnos y comenzar nuestra aventura.

Ya desde el principio quedamos maravillados con el paisaje que se presentaba delante de nuestros ojos y nos hizo acordar mucho a tramos de la película La Era de Hielo. Al principio el camino comenzó muy sencillo pero a medida que comenzamos a avanzar por momentos el camino se estrechaba y en otras partes había que hacer descensos bastante abruptos.

After walking a few minutes in the countryside we found this Cañadon in the middle of the Patagonian Espeta that although it began with a not so great slope, to enter we had to descend at least four meters to be able to enter and begin our adventure.

Already from the beginning we were amazed with the landscape that was presented before our eyes and reminded us a lot of sections of the movie "The Ice Age". At the beginning the path started out very simple but as we started to advance at times the path became narrower and in other parts we had to make quite steep descents.

Caminamos un buen tramo hasta que llegamos a un punto donde el paisaje se volvía más lindo pero debíamos descender una pared totalmente vertical de más de diez metros por lo que después de observar y maravillarnos un poco decidimos volver al auto para reunirnos nuevamente con mi esposa y mi hija menor.

Nos hubiese gustado conocer mejor el lugar y buscar un camino alternativo para poder bajar en la parte más profunda pero al parar de imprevisto y quedar la mitad de la familia en el auto no podíamos pasar toda la tarde recorriendo el sitio.

We walked a long way until we reached a point where the landscape became more beautiful but we had to descend a totally vertical wall of more than ten meters, so after observing and marveling a little we decided to return to the car to meet again with my wife and my youngest daughter.

We would have liked to get to know the place better and look for an alternative way to go down in the deepest part, but since we stopped unexpectedly and half of the family stayed in the car, we could not spend the whole afternoon touring the site.

Al otro día cuando llegamos a casa buscamos videos en youtube y lo que encontramos fue maravilloso. Nos dimos cuenta que nos faltó avanzar algo más para descubrir paisajes aún más increíbles. Sin dudas el próximo viaje pasaremos por este sitio con más tiempo para poder disfrutar de esos paisajes que nos transporta a millones de años atrás.

Gracias a nuestra alma aventurera hoy sabemos que hay un gran atractivo esperando para ser descubierto.

The next day when we got home we looked for videos on youtube and what we found was wonderful. We realized that we had to go further to discover even more incredible landscapes. No doubt the next trip we will visit this place with more time to enjoy these landscapes that take us back to millions of years ago.

Thanks to our adventurous soul, today we know that there is a great attraction waiting to be discovered.
