In 2 Peter 1 we have the words excellence and virtue used in translation for a couple of instances, the same word used there can mean either one. That makes me think about what excellence is.
Is talent always given to the good? Charisma to the righteous? There are criminals with immense talent, they excel, they succeed on the surface, but are they excellent?
But true excellence is also virtuous according to Peter. It is something we should add to our faith according to 2 Peter 1, to supplement it. And that excellence, that virtue is to be supplemented by knowledge!
Martin Luther said that a Christian cobbler doesn't witness by putting crosses on the shoes, he does it by making good shoes. Still working out what he meant by that exactly, but it's a good journey. Still learning.
