The floodgate will replace temporary barges that have been used at same location four times. Barges were temporarily sunk across the bayou during flooding and high water periods in 1973, 2011, 2016 and 2019.
Interesting article about a new floodgate that is being built near Morgan City, La. Seems like a lot of money to me, but I guess that's what things cost these days. I do think that this waterway could be used to divert sediment rich fresh water into nearby marsh and swamps, which would do a lot for coastal restoration.
