During my time away from the blog, I had several extraordinary experiences using my creative skills in the visual arts. I recently shared my experience participating in the restoration of the Church of La Pastora in Caracas, Venezuela. This was the beginning of my journey restoring cultural heritage sites in the nation. Today, I'm sharing something even more incredible: I had the opportunity to participate in the restoration of the house of Sim贸n Bol铆var, the Liberator.
En este tiempo que pas茅 ausente del blog pude vivir varias experiencias extraordinarias usando mis habilidades creativas en las artes pl谩sticas; hace poco compart铆 mi experiencia participando en la restauraci贸n de la Iglesia de la Pastora en la ciudad de Caracas, Venezuela. Este fue mi inicio por un recorrido restaurando patrimonios culturales de la naci贸n; hoy les vengo a compartir algo a煤n m谩s incre铆ble, tuve la oportunidad de participar en la restauraci贸n de la casa del Libertador Sim贸n Bol铆var.
The work I did at the Pastora church turned out excellent, so they hired me again, but this time to participate in the restoration of the building that currently houses the "Bolivarian Society of Venezuela." This colonial house is located in the historic center of the city of Caracas, right next to the birthplace of Sim贸n Bol铆var. The area is called the "Bol铆var block," and all of these properties at some point in history belonged to the liberator.
El trabajo que realice en la iglesia de la Pastora quedo excelente, por eso me volvieron a contratar, pero esta vez para participar en la restauraci贸n de la edificaci贸n donde se aloja actualmente la "Sociedad Bolivariana de Venezuela" esta casa colonial se encuentra ubicada en el casco hist贸rico de la ciudad de Caracas, justo a un lado de la casa natal de Sim贸n Bol铆var, la zona es llamada la "cuadra Bol铆var", todas esas propiedades en alg煤n momento de la historia pertenecieron al libertador.
They had been working on the restoration for a few months; only the final details were missing. My main job was to work on the facade, but when I arrived, the bricklayers still had some finishing touches to complete. So, they offered me some other tasks while the facade was being finished. The first thing I did was help restore a large library located within the Bolivarian Society of Venezuela. We had to take the books off the shelves, detach the shelves from the wall, and restore the frieze and wall paint. Then we had to put everything back in order. That was easy, but it took us two weeks because the library was so large.
En el lugar llevaban unos cuantos meses trabajando en la restauraci贸n, solo faltaban los detalles finales, mi labor principal era trabajar en la fachada, pero cuando llegue todav铆a faltaban algunos detalles por parte de los alba帽iles, entonces me ofrecieron realizar algunas otras labores mientras estaba listo lo otro. Lo primero que hice fue ayudar en la restauraci贸n de una gran biblioteca que se encuentra dentro de la sociedad bolivariana de Venezuela; ten铆amos que bajar los libros de los estantes, separar los estantes de la pared y restaurar friso y pintura de la pared, luego volver a organizar todo, eso fue f谩cil, pero nos tardamos dos semanas, ya que la biblioteca era grande.
Then I went to a small auditorium. That space had been almost completely restored; the seats had new cushions, and I was tasked with replacing the felt on some of the panels along the side walls to improve the acoustics. This task initially intimidated me because it seemed a bit difficult to do alone, but I ended up doing it with ease. I restored five panels; I also restored the felt on the main auditorium door and replaced the tacks with gold ones.
Luego pase a un peque帽o auditorio que hay, ese espacio fue restaurado casi completamente, a los asientos le hicieron nuevos cojines y a m铆 me toco remplazar el fieltro de algunos de los paneles que hay en las paredes laterales para mejorar la ac煤stica. Esta tarea al principio me intimido porque la vi algo un poco dif铆cil de hacer yo solo, pero luego lo hice con mucha facilidad, restaure 5 paneles; tambi茅n restaure los fieltros de la puerta principal del auditorio y remplace las tachuelas por unas doradas.
Finally, I restored a drawing on the cornice of the building's facade. When it came time for this, I had a limited timeframe of three days, so I called Brother Diego, with whom I've worked before and know to be responsible, to help me finish within that time, as this was a slightly more demanding task. We made the most of those three days, working late into the night to meet the deadline, but we succeeded and achieved a high-quality result.
Por 煤ltimo, restaure un dibujo en la cornisa de la fachada de la edificaci贸n, para cuando me toco hacer esto ya ten铆a un tiempo limitado de 3 d铆as, as铆 que llame al hermano Diego, con quien he trabajado y s茅 que es responsable, para poder culminar en ese tiempo, ya que esta si era una labor un poco m谩s exigente. El tiempo en estos tres d铆as lo usamos al m谩ximo, trabajamos hasta tarde para poder cumplir con esa entrega, pero se logr贸 con 茅xito y calidad.
Currently, the Bolivarian Society of Venezuela doesn't play a relevant role, so I consider the capital invested in these kinds of things a waste. However, I don't control those decisions, which is why I choose to focus on the history and what this colonial house represents as part of the nation's cultural heritage. This is the second heritage restoration project I can add to my professional resume. I hope you enjoyed this extraordinary experience. Good vibes.
En la actualidad la Sociedad bolivariana de Venezuela no cumple alg煤n rol relevante, as铆 que para m铆 el capital que se invierte en este tipo de cosas lo considero un desperdicio, pero yo no controlo esas decisiones, por esa raz贸n decido poner el valor en la historia y en lo que representa esta casa colonial como parte del patrimonio cultural de la naci贸n. Esta es la segunda restauraci贸n patrimonial que puedo sumar a mi curr铆culo profesional, espero que les haya gustado esta extraordinaria experiencia, buenas vibras.
