Do you find yourself going around in circles day after day?
You are human, surely. But why do so many people make the same errors over and over again? Several recent studies reveal how our brains don’t learn from our past mistakes to the extent we might hope. In fact, thinking about past mistakes might only doom us to repeat them.
So, here are 5 really simple tips you can start to implement to make sure you don't repeat your silly mistakes.
Declare to yourself that you want to CHANGE.
To do this you must think of a direction you would like to go in. Once you have thought about this then you have made a clear intention to change.
Develop an acceptance ATTITUDE
Accept that long-term positive changes will take time and directed efforts, and you are less likely to fall into the instant gratification trap where you expect to get what you want quickly and easily.
Recognise YES BUT barriers
Often this powerful yes-but procrastination factor is hidden in plain sight. Here is how this works. With yes, you are agreeing with yourself that the self-change is important. With but, you have a reason why you can't do it. Be aware of this and don't make excuses for yourself.
Overcome YES BUT barriers
When you procrastinate, check to see if your thoughts include yes but thinking. For example, “Yes, I know I have to change my behaviour to achieve more success, but I have to do other things first.” (“But now is a bad time.” “But I lack the will.” “But I’m under too much stress.”) Work hard to overcome this mental chat. Remember you are in control.
If you start to implement these tips, you will see that you can make a real change to any situation.
Until next time!
