Oh Lord my heart. This game was almost to painful to watch, I spent the majority of the game yelling at the TV watching the Chiefs lose the game, until they didn't. The first half of the game was absolutely terrible for the Chiefs, while they pulled something out of seemingly thin air in the second.
First Half
1st Quarter:
In the first quarter the Chief's performed absolutely terribly. While their defense played ok, but the offense was a dumpster fire. The Chiefs allowed the Browns to score a touchdown with an accompanying 2 point conversion, with only a field goal to answer for it. This was just the beginning of the plummet that my heart took watching the game. After the 3-0 Preseason watching the abysmal start to the game had me yelling at the TV in my best Couch Quarterback fashion.
2nd Quarter:
The second quarter was a better performance for the KC Chief's offense but, the defense fell off the map. The Chiefs allowed the Browns to score 14 points with only 7 of their own to answer. Let me tell you it was a short lived celebration for the single touchdown the Chiefs scored, with lot's of yelling in frustration to accompany it. To say it was a frustrating half of football as a Chief's fan is an understatement. Nothing seemed to be clicking for the team and it almost seemed as though they had never played together before. At the end of the half the game was at a score of 22-10 in favor of the Browns.
2nd Half
3rd Quarter:
This is when the game really started to pick up for the Chiefs and where my frustrated yelling turned into enthusiastic cheering. The prevented the Browns from scoring the entire quarter and scored 10 points of their own bringing the score to 22-10 in the Browns favor shortening their deficit to just 2 points by the end of the quarter. We got to see the offense finally start to click together this quarter and some pretty good playing by the defense as well.
4th Quarter:
This is where we really got to see the Chiefs play at the top of their game. The great plays by the Chiefs coupled with 1 crucial mistake by the Browns led to the Chiefs ultimately winning the game. In the beginning of the quarter the Chiefs allowed the Browns to score another touchdown bringing the score to 29-22 in the Browns favor, which of course induced more frustrated couch quarterbacking as time was running out and the win was slipping further and further away. Que another epic 4th Quarter Chiefs comeback. Mahomes threw an absolute bomb of a pass to Hill, a 75 yard touchdown pass to be precise, they then tried for a 2 point conversion that failed. The Browns took possession of the ball and Chris Jones got a sack for a 6 yard loss. After 2 more plays the Chiefs had successfully held the Browns to a 3 and out and now the Browns were going to punt, Leaving plenty of time on the clock for the Chiefs to score again and take the lead. And then their punter, in his first punt of the game, fumbled the ball. The Chiefs retook possession on about the 15 yard line and went to score another touchdown. That was 2 Touchdowns in 3 minutes 6 seconds for the Chiefs bringing the score to 33-29 in the Chiefs favor. The Chiefs ended the game by intercepting a Browns pass with a minute left on the clock securing their victory in not only their first game of the regular season, but also their home opener.
Overall Game
The Chiefs played a pretty good game of football with 397 yards, 21 first downs, and 9/13 3rd down conversions. They also had only 2 sacks (which with a whole new O-Line is decent in my opinion), 5 penalties for 36 yards, no fumbles or interceptions, and a total possession time of 32:47.
