In this teaching, Bro Eli made us to understand the importance of keeping promises, especially those made to children. Words carry weight and promises should never be made carelessly, it is better to surprise your children, husbands, wives, or relatives than making promise that can not be fulfilled. Children naturally trust the words of their parents, guardians and any adults around them and the the promises they receive after become sources of hope and expectation.
In the book of Ecclesiastes 5:4-5 we see that God values sincerity and faithfulness. It is better not to make promise than to make one and fail to fulfill it. This does not apply only to promises made to people but also to promises made to God. When we make promises without intending or being able to fulfill it, we risk damaging the trust that children have in us.
Do not promise anything, a surprise is better than promise and fail. Keeping promises teaches children important values such as honesty, reliability, and faithfulness. We should be careful with words and avoid making commitments we cannot be able to fulfill, it is better to explain one's limitations honestly than to create expectations that can not be met. Trust is built on consistency and every fulfilled promise strengthens a child's confidence in people around them, while broken promises can leave emotional scars that may take time to heal. When we fulfill our promises, we reflect integrity, responsibility and genuine love.
