Engineering is Ben's greatest passion. But not just any kind of engineering; he works in a large instrument factory. His specialty is pianos. He does everything, from preparing the materials for the fine wood used to crafting the keys. He's been working at the factory for about 22 years, which is quite a long time. He started very young and is now one of the most veteran employees. He knows everything about pianos; you only have to describe a problem one has, and he immediately knows how to fix it. The factory has offered him better positions since they no longer involve assembling and building them, but he has always preferred to remain at the forefront of their construction.

But there's something quite ironic about his job: he knows everything about piano construction, but he doesn't know how to play it or compose music. This is something he's always wanted to learn, but he hasn't had the time or the drive to do so. This has never bothered him much, since he recognizes that he doesn't create music, but rather the instrument itself, which is something different. But that's starting to change. Many of his classmates, who are the ones who test the piano, have been telling him how it's possible that after so many years he still doesn't know how to play. That's embarrassed him a little and made him change his mind.
On the other hand, some of his own coworkers told him he shouldn't listen to them, that it was too late to learn, and that he should just keep doing what he already knew how to do and not worry about it. Ben agreed with them and didn't really put up much of a fight with some of their teasing, but he wanted to experience what it felt like to learn to play the piano. He couldn't imagine continuing to build pianos, bringing them to life, and not knowing how to play one. It was something he couldn't live with anymore. So he decided to take piano lessons on his own.
On his days off from the factory, he enrolled in a local course. When he arrived and entered the classroom, he saw that almost everyone was young and children. Some looked him up and down as if to say, "What's he doing here, so old, learning?" But the very kind teacher told him to sit down and that it's never too late to learn. While she was right, it's true that starting late can make it take a little longer to learn than those who are younger. So he watched as everyone else learned much faster and gained skills much more effectively. Meanwhile, he seemed to be lagging behind. This made him feel bad, and even a little embarrassed again.
But luckily, he had his very kind teacher who explained that he shouldn't worry; what he was going through was completely normal at his age. She had experience with many older students who had taken the course in the past, and they all learned more slowly than the younger ones, but in the end, they always learned, and that was what mattered. Those words reassured him considerably since all of this was new to him. Well, the end of the course arrived, and most of the students could already play very well, but Ben was still quite far behind. He thought he had done it all for nothing, and even considered not continuing; perhaps it wasn't for him. But at the end-of-year farewell, the teacher gave him some final words of encouragement. He already understood the concept, he knew how to play, he had progressed a lot; he just needed a little more practice. So, she gave him the task of never stopping learning.
He followed her advice and began practicing intensively. Every night, on his days off, and even at the factory, he practiced on the pianos. Little by little, he learned the hard work involved in reaching a good level and achieving what he wanted. He had finally overcome the saying that it's too late to start. But he wouldn't stop there. Now that he knows how to play the piano, he wants to change professions and start making a living from what he once created; he wants to experience music through the piano. He will have to keep learning, but as we've seen, it's never too late when you have the desire and the motivation to do it. Keep playing, Ben.
