I was scrolling through Instagram the other day when I came across a video of a guy talking about this, and it struck me. In his opinion, people who constantly claim looks don't matter when they have to choose a partner are utter liars. While I understand where his opinion stems from, I wouldn’t outrightly call them liars, I’d just say they probably aren’t being completely truthful.
Let me put it this way; It is no secret that looks is ONE of the most important factors in dating and relationships these days. This is because more often than not, how someone looks may influence how we view them at first. It might be something that initially attracts us to that person or something that we notice first. However, personality plays a significant role in relationships. In other words, they are in sync, only one comes first, while the other takes time.
I used to be of the opinion that I was uninterested in a man's appearance, but I now see things differently. I was simply trying to sound like everyone else. Honestly, based on how picky I have been in terms of choosing a partner, I can conveniently say that I pay more attention to looks than I like to admit. Then, personality comes next. Besides, you can’t always detect a person's personality just by looking at them. Time reveals the most.
Nonetheless, folks are often drawn to people who are not very stupefying in terms of looks but have great personalities. I have heard this phrase far too many times.
If you are looking to find the right person, make sure you are not just looking at how they look on the outside, but also what they are like on the inside.
Everyone is born distinct, unique, and beautiful in their own different ways, but it doesn’t negate the fact that there are people you meet and you’re immediately like ‘Nah, this person is not for me’, because there are no connections and no attractions, personality aside. And, there are those you meet who make you think, "Yes, this is certainly for me".
People say the aforementioned paragraph as if when you walk into a crowd of people you just go pointing at someone saying ‘I choose you because you look like you have a great personality. No way! You choose the individual because of how they look first. If you disagree with me, please tell me your reason(s).
Personally, within a short time of meeting someone, I can tell if they are attractive personality-wise or not. If they aren't, there's no point in getting to know them any further. Besides looks, I want someone who's smart, motivated, successful, and has good values.
In conclusion, personality is what matters most when it comes to relationships, but then, looks definitely counts. However, if you can't stand to be around the person you are with for more than a few minutes at a time then the relationship or whatever ship you both have is doomed for disaster.
And, if you can't find any common ground on anything with this individual, then, it's not worth trying to make the relationship work based on looks alone. You should be with someone you like, who likes you and, with whom you can get along.
Regardless, there is someone for everyone.
