Hi there,
I'm glad to have you here!

In a world where basically anyone's voice can be heard, thriving becomes a question of how well one can filter out the noise and take necessities. Every day, social media grows and expands. And believe it or not, you're in conversations with every passing of time.
You might think that conversations imply having a talk (or chat) with another person, and if so, how can one be in constant conversation when it is not every time you chat with someone? But in actual fact, the word "conversation" is a mid-14th century word, and it had nothing to do with talking. Conversation originally meant a place where one lives or dwells. The overall pattern of actions or habits. The manner of conducting oneself. Vocabulary.com.
With that established, you could imagine now that having a conversation is larger than the scope of just chatting. And it would be safe to say that your entire life is a conversation; it consists of the conversations you have.
Conversations are determinants and predictors of our lives and future. And how we thrive in this world is going to come down to the quality of our conversations.
Now, there are different types of conversation and we will be categorising them into two;
- Conversations with others and,
- Conversations with self.
"Conversations with others" clearly means the kinds of conversations you have with people. Or rather, the series of actions, habits, and conduct involved in relating to people. "Conversations with self" refers to the kinds of thoughts you have with yourself, as well as the goals and plans you make.
At the end of the day, these conversations have a solid impact on how our lives are shaped. For example, a simple conversation about the HIVE blockchain and its prospects with @starstrings01, followed by a series of similar conversations and I am now here on this platform (by serendipity, of course) and day after day, my life is shaped in a way I had never considered; I am grateful for the conversations.
How do these conversations affect one?
I was on the phone with a friend one night. We initially started off with talks about family, school, and recent endeavors, and then moved onto a conversation regarding the state of Nigeria, our motherland. You see, Nigeria's economy is one you could describe as a "blackhole." You put anything in it, and it gets sucked in. Is the crypto dip bothering you? Well, that's our everyday in the country's economy.
We generally talked about how "there's nothing waiting for you" as a Nigerian, how "youths are the leaders of tomorrow" is now a scam", how terrible major infrastructures are, and the massive inflation ("yesterday's price is not today's price" is on whole new level here).
The things we spoke about hit me with a strong reminder on how I gotta hustle make waves for myself, and in turn, pushes me to take things up a notch. This includes looking at my plan for my life, visualising the road I am going, and evaluating strategies to follow.
Now, do I mean to to say that if I had not had that conversation that night that I would not have thought about my life once more? No, not necessarily. What I mean to say is, that particular conversation with that friend spurred me into doing better. And that, dear reader, is an effect of conversations. This example is just a positive effect one under "Conversations with others". Another example would be regarding "Conversations with self."
I am a guitarist and I have been for about seven years now. But with that amount of time, I am not even close to where I could be. And with this realization, I have had different thoughts about it. Of course, to be where I could be, it would take consistency, hard-work, and something else (the right "conversations with self"). Without the right conversations, hard work and consistency would always be difficult to achieve.
Sometimes, I do not feel good about myself whenever I think of how far behind I am. And that "far behind" mentality can either be a virus that saps your zeal or a catalyst that propels you to work harder; and the things you tell yourself determine which of the two is your case.
At some points in my journey with my guitar, I had actually given up, but somehow, I got back up and got better. But the thing is, those little moments of falling and rising largely contribute to my progress.
In conclusion...
Yes, life happens, but it really is your responsibility to have high quality conversations with others and yourself because your life depends on it.
And you know, we just had a conversation, so let me know in the comments what you think.
