After a couple of weeks living here with fellow countrymen in service to our motherland, I began receiving comments about my lifestyle that they had observed. "You ehn, you and this your phone shaa... You no even dey send us outside." Their comments would generally be like that, implying that I am usually indoors doing one or two things on my phone for hours on end. Looking introspectively at this truthful fact and how admittedly unhealthy it is, I realise that I have to do something about it.

Doing something about not being all about my phone 24/7 is underway, however. My life has now become so intertwined with the things that I do on my phone (and even my PC) that I often need to be on them, focusing, to achieve what I may have set out to do for the day. Hence, we have now become inseparable. What, then, can manage to come between us and put a separation between our connection as it stands? Surely, there must be something. Let me tell you a snippet of the story of my life.

I have never been more humble than I usually am since I came here to Rivers State to serve my country. I mean, I came here to serve, but I am being served heartbreaks on a steady basis. Whenever they come, I just wonder what it is that I may have done to deserve it to begin with.

I was on my own in heaven before coming to this place and to live among earthlings, when I was filling out the form of the country I would like to land in and live my entire lifetime with its nationality engraved in my roots, and then I was informed by the attendant that my request was being processed.

If I remember correctly, I was supposed to land in Canada. But, till this very moment that I am pouring my heart out to you, I till cannot fathom and comprehend what may have happened behind the works of my paper and request. Is it that someone swapped my form with another person, who is now a Canadian, and I found myself over here? Somebody should come and explain to me what happened.

Just imagine talking with friends from neighbouring countries, and they're telling me about my life here—that electricity happens as though heaven turned to us and finally smiled—and that's how we can have power running in our homes. Because why would I turn to a caveman and be counting the number of stones in my compound whenever my phone battery goes flat and there is no way to charge it until the almighty power station blesses us again?

That, dear reader, is the story of my life in a nutshell. The lack of electricity is usually the biggest reason I could be offline for hours and not be able to look at my phone. Looking at my phone would be like, you know, staring at my angry face in a black mirror.

Of course, I shouldn't be on my phone every now and then, as it is unhealthy. I will work on that. I just came by your screen today to yarn you about this unexciting part of my life.

What about you? Do you spend much time on your phone? I mean, you probably are on one right now reading this, but I wonder what separates you from it. Meanwhile, thank you for reading!

PS: I do love my country.
