Oh you can feel it. Just as surely as there is a bit of nip in the air, there is also a feeling of melancholy. Perhaps it is from the lower amount of sunlight we can enjoy. I know here it is getting darkish near 7pm. This will continue till the winter solstice when the gloaming starts near 4pm.

What can one do to fight the impending gloom and the all too often familiar feelings of doom? These can all be symptoms of SAD or Seasonal affective disorder. Well one might consider actual daylight bulbs that mimic sunlight. Another idea is to look at taking vitamin D. Of course it is best to discuss this with a real doctor instead of Dr Paul lol.

While I think those method of combating seasonal affective disorder are good and totally legitimate, here is another angle. It seems that in today's world feelings of melancholy are considered a problem, something that is wrong and that needs to be fixed. However, I am not sure I buy into this idea 100 percent. If circumstances are such that one would "normally" feel sad, is it then wrong if a body does indeed feels sad? I think not.

Perhaps we should not entirely wish to drain away all feelings of melancholy. In fact perhaps we should not be afraid to get acquainted with a bit of sad here and there. For those of us living in the Northern climes, we are facing a prison term of six to eight months. No warm walks on the beach, no playing in the water, no enjoying basking in a glorious sunset. Yet the accompanying melancholy can act as a driver. I know for me, every hint of cold causes me to remain steadfast in my goal of getting to a warmer climate.
