I was on video call with my mom and sister last night. We are all in different cities right now, so this is the only way to keep in touch. During the conversation, an air raid signal wen off, and literally a few seconds later a powerful explosion thundered. The windows in my apartment shook. The kitchen ventilation made a chugging and puffing sound, as if a minor explosion wave went through it. The call had to be terminated.

The first 5-10 minutes after any explosion is always the most painful. You don't know what exactly it was, where the explosion was, who was hurt, what was destroyed. We need to wait for information from official sources. Unfortunately, many unofficial channels and "witnesses" leak information about explosions and their location earlier and more accurately than official authorities do. Although it is absolutely forbidden to do this, because in this way you can help the enemy correct an air strike or shelling, which will lead to even more casualties.

It turned out that the explosion occurred in the Podil district of Kyiv. At night, rescuers started putting out a fire in a shopping center, 6 residential buildings were damaged, three of them are no longer suitable for life. 8 people died. The premises of two schools and two kindergartens were also damaged. Because of the fires, the air in the capital is polluted, so the authorities advise not to open the windows and try not to go out. Since yesterday evening, all night and up to this moment, I've been receiving messages from different channels with video from the scene. The sight of destruction in my hometown terrifies me.

My mom is very worried about what is happening in Kyiv and other cities. Although my parents themselves are not in a safe city. Needless to say, there are no absolutely safe cities in Ukraine now. The enemy is so cruel and demoralized that it begins to terrorize the civilian population through indiscriminate bombing, the target of which is often places where civilians gather or just residential areas. There are no military objects in these places! The cynicism of the enemy is outrageous.

This morning, my husband gave a lift to the guy from the Territorial Defense Forces who lives in our block. They've known each other since childhood. Today this guy is joining the army, as he has had military experience. It seems that the war is somewhere in the distance, until it happens to your city, to your home, to people you know well. When the parents or children of your friends, or the friends themselves, are injured or die. When all the other misfortunes that accompany war happen to them, or to you. It's scary and cuts the soul alive. It is impossible to predict your emotions and behavior in such situations until you experience it yourself. In the human character, both previously unseen resources and previously unknown weaknesses are revealed.
