Друзі, сьогодні на роботі я проводжу вебінар, присвячений поширеним помилкам в англійській мові. Хочу тезово поділитися основним з вами. Сподіваюсь, вам сподобається 😌

Дослівний переклад

Перекласти вираз дослівно - шлях найменшого спротиву. Але часто фраза стає щонайменше незрозумілою, а щонайбільше - набуває небажаного значення (наприклад, "I feel myself" - це не "почуватися", а "торкатися себе", в усіх сенсах. Інші поширені випадки:

decide a problem --> solve a problem
grow up professionally (grow up означає дорослішати) --> grow professionally
last time (калька від «останнім часом») --> recently
I’m afraid I’m not agree with you. --> I’m afraid I don’t agree with you.
It can be (в значенні «може бути») --> It can be possible.
I’m not sure what do you mean. --> I’m not sure what you mean.
Do you hear me? --> Can you hear me?
I am working hardly. --> I am working hard.
I have a lot of job now. --> I have a lot of work now.
What, what? --> Sorry, I didn’t catch...
I am interesting in --> I am interested in
How it calls? --> What do you call it?

Незлічувані іменники

Поширений приклад помилки — вживання у множині іменника advice.
Раджу уявити, що ’advice’ - це тісто. Уявили? Запам’ятайте цю асоціацію! Давати поради в англійській можна, як тісто — шматочками (to give a piece of advice). Якщо не подобається слово ’piece’, скажіть ’some advice’».

Прийменники

Якщо після дієслова є прийменник, вчити дієслово без нього - марна трата часу! Треба вчити цілу фразу.
Декілька поширених помилок:

to influence on something --> to influence something
to depend from --> to depend on
to listen music --> to listen to music
explain me --> explain to me
on the picture --> in the picture
at Saturday --> on Saturday
on the next weekend --> next weekend
in the Internet --> on the internet
discuss about an issue --> discuss an issue

Word-to-word translation is an easy way, but it may cause misunderstanding or even undesired meaning (like in case with 'I feel myself). Other frequently made mistakes are as follows:

Uncountable nouns

A frequent one is "advice". I always say one should imagine it as a piece of dough, so you can only give it "in pieces". This simple association actually works quite well, as the fact that this noun in uncountable is quite counterintuitive for the speakers of some languages.
