Hello, everyone.
I welcome you to my blog and another wonderful edition of the hive learner's featured post. One thing about the world we live in is that there will always be crimes, there will always be victims, and all you have to do is to pray and hope you are not the one at the receiving end (victim) when this crime takes place. For every crime committed, they were victims, and funny enough, you cannot be careful enough to avoid being a victim because sometimes it just happens unexpectedly, and then you find yourself as a victim, and then you will have to deal with the losses or the injuries every victim of such crime has to deal with. Some victims never heal from the crimes commited agsnt them, some deal with the trauma untill the day they draw their last breath while some eventually found a way to deal with the pain and not let it hurt so much.
It is really terrible how you just cannot be too careful when it comes to being a victim; sometimes people end up victims of a crime committed in the places they least expected a crime to ever take place. Some years back we lost a friend in a bomb blast in church here in Nigeria. We had plans of hanging out after church only to hear that a suicide bomber brought explosives to church, killed himself, and so many others with him. If someone had told him he would die in church, he would have doubted because what could have actually killed him in church under normal circumstances?
So when it comes to crimes and being a victim of crime, you cannot be too careful; even those who lock themselves up in a house all in the name of being careful and not wanting to be victims end up experiencing a break-in or they are robbed in their own house or even worse. So whether you end up being a victim of people's crime or not is not your choice or your decision to make; you can put all the strategies in place only to end up a victim, while those who were careless end up not being victims in any way.
Criminals should be rehabilitated and not just punished for their crimes; both go hand in hand. They can be serving their jail term while rehabilitating at the same time, and that way we get a better version of them back; only punishing them means we either get the same person back or, even worse, punish and make sure they are rehabilitated, which will go a long way in making sure we get a safer world and a better society, one with fewer crimes. Rehabilitation over punishment to a point depending on the person's crime.
No doubt they might have hurt or left their victims with a scar they will have to deal with for life, but trust me, we stand a better chance at making sure no other person is hurt with rehabilitation than with just punishment. I have also heard some of the victims say they don't wish that anyone experienced the same thing they experienced, so this proves that rehabilitation can help reduce or even put a stop to crimes and the number of victims we have.
