Welcome to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learners' featured post. We have humans roaming the face of the earth; some are lookalikes, so the only way to differentiate each and everyone is by the name we bear. Our name is our identity; it's what makes us stand out. I really don't see a reason why one would dislike or be ashamed of their name.

My name is Godwin, and the story behind this name kind of amazes me because, at the time of delivery, my birth almost cost my mom's life, but thank God it didn't.
No doubt many names have a story behind them; some names were given based on the circumstances faced by the parent at the time of delivery. Like in my case, my mom went into labor on the same day doctors went on a Nationwide strike. She was already at the hospital when it was announced that they had embarked on a strike, and to her greatest surprise, they left her despite the fact she was in pain.
She said they asked her to stand up so they could carry the bed she was lying on because they wanted to shut down and all the beds had to be returned to their store room. She was left lying on the bunk like that. They pleaded with the doctors, but none were willing to listen. They had to carry her to a private hospital that was miles away. She said she fainted, and everyone thought it was the end for her, but God came through.
They got to the hospital, and since the hospital was not so big, there was no free bed at the time they arrived. They had to start making arrangements on how to get a bed while she sat on the floor crying. Finally, she was able to give birth at around 3 p.m., and a struggle that started between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. came to an end.
She said the name they had in mind was David, but after facing all those challenges, they had to call me Godwin because if not for God, it would have been a different story. I believe there are many others who got theirs just like I did.

It has never crossed my mind, and sometimes I tend to wonder why people change their names. I kind of like the name they had in mind (David), but hearing the story of how the whole name thing changed made me fall in love with my own name. Godwin, which means a friend of God, is my mom's favorite name. She will always say God will continue to win all your battles, and no doubt, I believe the name works for me. I have been through a lot but still survived. Health challenges were one of my biggest problems, but God won.
I love the name, and there's nothing about it I would like to change; it's who I am, and I am proud of my name. I might like biblical names, but even though my name is not biblical, it still stands out.
Thanks for reading my post.
