I welcome you to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learners' featured post. As much as keeping close watch on your students and staff as a school or firm saves you from encountering a disgrace, it saves you from hiring a teacher that will bring a dent to the school's name or admitting a student that will bring embarrassment and be a disgrace to the school, but trust me, if places were switched, you too wouldn't like that your privacy is getting invaded and you have nothing happening in your life that is away from your workplace or from your school.
We are all humans, and one thing we all love and look forward to is enjoying a certain level of privacy; trust me, when you live or are in a position where you have little or no privacy, at that point you will understand why privacy is so important. Sometimes we do not see the importance of privacy until the little we have is taken away from us or it is being invaded continuously. The lack of privacy can be really annoying and leaves us annoyed and even having feelings that words cannot express.
As much as keeping a close watch on teachers and students will stop the den and embarrassment from a mile away, I still do not support such an act. I think we are all humans and have the right to choose what we want to be a part of, and both students and teachers should be given that liberty and freedom to do whatever they want to do and post whatever they want to post on social media, as it is their choice and I think their right. Just because somebody is a student or a teacher in your school does not mean you now have the power to take away some of their rights.
Humans are free moral agents; we all know the good and bad and have the right to choose which we want to be a part of. If it is good or bad that we want to be a part of, it is all up to us, and trust me, keeping a close watch on both teachers and students will not always stop the embarrassment from moles away because you can be keeping a close watch and still have things go wrong right under your nose. Don't suffocate your staff and students by intruding in their private lives; rather, wait for them to make the mistake and then take necessary action.
Yes, let teachers and students enjoy their private lives, but once a report is made that their social media post or lifestyle will bring about questions being asked about the reputation of the school, then necessary actions should be taken and those involved either given the right punishment or asked to represent the school properly out there. In the case the individuals involved (staff member or student) does not take correction from mild punishments they probably a more severe one can be given and if that still does not provide a solution then probably cutting ties and try to work on the damage their post of behaviours online must have caused the school and fund a way to fix that.
