I do not believe that any school has any right whatsoever to intrude into the privacy of staff and students. It’s a breach of their fundamental human right at every level. So long as the staff or student has not committed any crime or breached any school policy, I do not believe that anyone should intrude in their privacy. I do not also believe that any organization whatsoever should have the right to intrude in the privacy of staff, or those they serve because no matter how you look at it, no matter the good intentions behind it, humans are unpredictable and would do a lot of damage if given access to information. Information they say is power, the information social media holds can cause a lot of damage if exposed to society. You might be really doing nothing with your social media, but there are those doing a lot with social media and if certain information should leak, it will do more harm than good.
There is power already in secrecy, I can bet if an organization should pay you a lot of money as salary with the condition that they will always have access to your social media, you will give them access and find other ways to keep your life private. This is so for everyone. If people know that their activities will be monitored on social media, people will stop doing a lot of things there, they will start showing only things that they are comfortable showing and would refrain from doing things that would expose them in ways they do not wish to be exposed. Although it is called social media, for a lot of people, it is more of a private space because they get to be themselves unfiltered and unashamed. This is why venturing into people’s space for whatever reason automatically turns it into a public space and when people are in a public space, they will do only what they do in public.
If a school or any organization desires to protect their integrity, it’s best to make policies that stop the use of phones or social media while in their facility. They might also consider making policies regarding the use of social media or appearing in social gatherings and public meetings with anything that represents the organization. Meaning they can not appear on camera with a uniform, id card, or anything that puts them in the same conversation with their organization. This way the company protects their interests while also respecting the staff's or students' privacy because this is a line that should not be crossed by any means. Either way, humans will always find others ways to protect their privacy if they see policies that want to expose it. I think at the end of the day what makes us humans is that we will always find a way to look out for ourselves if the system meant to protect our human right is trying to intrude in it.
