You know, the kind of music when I don't need too much energy but want a little more beats than lofi, which is our usual go-to weekend mornings. I'll bring that to you in another #TTT post.
This week let me kick off my entry to the TreeTunesTuesday community with these tunes from the 70s, and 80s. Let's do this in reverse order from the newest - LOL - to the oldest song.
First up - the year is 1986, about five years before this group came to international fame with Losing my religion followed by other songs from the LP Out of time. I'm talking, of course, about R.E.M, a band from Athens, GA often titled college band (because they met and started playing music together while in college?) or alternative rock band. They had many, many hit songs and I am sure I'll post about others in the future but this is the song that played Saturday morning at breakfast, and both hubby and I started humming and singing along - good times! And because I love, love, looooooved the Unplugged series (sadly hubby does not - oh well, we don't always have to agree) here is the unplugged version of Fall on me - those vocal harmonies always give me goosebumps.
Next up - the year is 1982 and the band is British pop, new wave band Tears for Fears. Again, this is by no means their biggest hit but it played Saturday morning for us and I love it so I am sharing it with you. You may look up the original early 80s video on YouTube - it's really kind of funny, very, very 80s! The version I am sharing with you today is a little gem I stumbled over. It is the pandemic version of the song sung by the original bassist and singer, Curt Smith, and accompanied by his daughter on guitar and 2nd vocal - quite awesome, really. Here you go.
And now a little flashback to the year - 1971. Yes, that was even before my time of listening to the charts but when growing up in the 80s I always had a thing for golden oldies and the 60s and, well, this is the early 70s. There is no great footage, kids - this was before the time of cell phones and videos. I found a video of the original band performing or probably jamming in a garage and this song is played to it. Not great quality but - this is f*cking 50-year-old footage! Anyhow, another song that always - ALWAYS - brings goosebumps when I hear it. So it happened Saturday morning.
I realize this is a bit of an incoherent post of very different songs but you know what? This is me. I am a very mixed bag of love for all kinds of music. From classical strings and orchestra to hard rock and (almost) everything in between. The only music genres I am having problems with are country, heavy metal, and rap, but - there are some very few songs that I will like in these genres.
