So, my cousin yesterday randomly asked me if I'd managed to download and play a game that I snagged in a recent humblebundle, Pathfinder Kingdoms, which I'd honestly totally forgotten about. The reminder though had me downloading it and firing it up as soon as it was ready.
Now, I'm a sucker for a good RPG, and I have been a fan of games like Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights, etc for as long as I can remember, and, if you've seen any of my other posts you know I'm a huge geek for D&D. So, naturally, this game was right up my alley given that it's basically a pairing of two things I already love.
Thankfully... I was not disappointed.
I decided to create a half-orc character, and was immediately met with more class choices than I could reasonably take the time to read at 11pm on a Friday. So, I picked a class I wasn't familiar with that doesn't exist in D&D called a Slayer. I almost picked an Inquisitor, but decided I'd give that a shot on another day when I wasn't starting the game so late.
The graphics are pretty decent quality for a game of this style, and the story begins with you - and a bunch of other hopeful adventurers - being tasked with taking over a region from bandits. Whoever succeeds will be granted the lands and a title! Pretty good incentive to get rid of some nasty bandits I figure!
But, bandits being bandits, they're not about to just LET this troupe of adventurers start a quest that could see them removed. So, they break in and try to kill everyone before they can even set out on their quest.
Of course, they're no match for our stalwart adventurers!
And with these attackers vanquished, we can now take the first steps on our journey!
I'm going to try and get some more gameplay in this afternoon when my toddler is napping, so I may post a bit more later today or tomorrow to detail more of the characters' journey. I'll aim to get a small video of some gameplay too when I do so - but honestly, if you're familiar with games like Baldurs Gate or Neverwinter Nights... the playstyle of this game will be immediately familiar to you!
