Man! It is not wrong to cry, it is okay to let the tears down. Don’t mind them, they keep telling you to man up, or perhaps you are the one telling yourself that you need to be a man. Why are you trying to be what you already are? I can’t believe you!
Many times, men are always trying to hide their pains and hurt just because they think or believe it is wrong for a grown up man to cry. On the contrary, you are doing yourself a lot of harm than good by not letting the tears out when there is a need. Scientifically speaking, it has been proven that crying allows your body to get rid of anxiety, reduces stress and will make you feel better. Shedding a tear could make people know your current reality and they may offer to help you as need be.
Don’t hold on to the old fictitious lie you were told that men are not supposed to cry. When you are hurt deep within and the tears want to make its way out, let it.
In my candid opinion, I think the world is gradually forgetting that sexual offenses are also been committed against the male gender. The attention has nearly shifted completely to the female gender. When some people hear that a sexual offence has been committed, the first thing that comes to their mind is that a female gender is the victim. Yes of course the female gender suffers 8 out of 10 of every sexual related abuse, but as little as the number 2 is, it is still very significant. That’s actually 20%! Boys are also being raped, harassed and molested daily. All I’m saying is, we also have to look into that. I fear we might sleep and wake up one day to find ourselves campaigning and fighting to tackle issues such has sexual offences in male gender the way we are currently globally fighting to curb it for the female gender now( I mean the table might turn!)
So many boys suffer sexual abuse and are keeping quiet because they believe it is only for women to speak up. This post is to encourage boys also to speak up, and to inform all of us that we should not sleep, but ensure that gender equity is truly gender equity! No gender is left behind
