I have come to discover that most children or teenagers with attitude problem got such bad attitude by reacting to wrong handling by parents.
Bad parenting is a major problem in our society today ranging from Dad coming home drunk,Mum addicted to drugs paying no attention to her children,Dad having an argument with mum and ends up beating her mercilessly which is a bad example.Use of abusive words on kids, Irresponsible financial attitude,Distrust,Neglection and authoritarianism are all form of bad parenting.
Let's see how these attitudes can affect a child.
Neglection
Negleting a child physically or emotionally can go a long way in affecting the child. Neglection is a common type of child abuse,which can hurt as much a physical abuse.
Not paying attention to children's need,leaving children unsupervised in dangerous situations or making the child feel unwanted or worthless can lead to low self-esteem and even isolation. Most times it can affect the mental health and social development ot the child and may leave a psychological scar forever.
Neglect can affect a childs emotion, behavior, language and overall ability. Some which results in Stealing, social withdrawal, low self- esteem ,problems with coping and regulating emotions.
Children suffering from neglection are prone to do poorly in school and can easily harm themselves .Those who didn't get the attention they needed in childhood may end up having difficulty maintaining a healthy relationship with their own children.
Use of abusive words.
Words are very powerful,Verbal abuse can affect a child psychologically and may cause irreversible damage.Such act can lead to the child loosing confidence and developing an inferiority complex.
These verbal abuses over a long time can lead to depression, anxiety or high risk behaviors such as casual sex, self harm, crime, and other unhealthy behaviors like hostility, Apathy and attention disorder.
Light punishment might be required to correct children, but in excess especially for small matters such punishments may back fire. Children need physical contact like hug,kisses and others sign of affection.
If you yell at your children and rain abuses on them you might end up causing a permanent damage.
Irresponsible financial attitude
Most parents are not very wise with spending money,its either they spend endlessly or are excessively stingy. Some parents buy anything their children ask for without control.While others act like there's no money anywhere.
Children whose every needs are met may end up knowing the value of money in time and may develop bad habits.Within 7-10 years many children have already formed the money habit they will carry into adulthood.Parents should create a balance and teach their children kids about money before then.
Bad examples.
Children copy what they see,imagine a child always witnessing mum beaten by an acholic dad on several occasions,that child will end up having an alteration psychological, believing its right to drink and beat women.
When he grows up he will end up doing the same. If the child is female she might end up hating men and never keep a relationship.Female children are likely to end up depressed and also they suffer from emotional instability.
Distrust.
Most parents believe others than they believe their children. Sometimes they don't even allow their children explain a particular situation to them.
Many parents cant rely or have faith on their children .All they do is demotivate them by using harsh words.And such behavior can make a child rebel or do wrong things.
Authoritarianism
An authoritarian parents is one who seek constantly obedience from children not minding what they do to get it. They will go as far as using threats,abuses,shame and even punishments to enforce obedience.
A child requires motivation and encouragement ,but forcing them against their choices can be detrimental and oppressive tactics are toxic for kids.
Many parents want to fulfill their desire or unachievable dreams through their kids.Such act is wrong and in no time the child will rebel.
Lets give our kids the necessary up bringing for a better society.
