Motivation can truly push you to start something but it's consistency that will keep you going and make the stuff move. Even in business you need to understand the power of consistency before you start if not, you might end half way.

Some years back I attended a seminar with a friend of mine and the speaker was one popular finical coach in this country, I won't mention the name. The conference was so powerful, the man taught sense, and nearly everything he said was captivating, the motivation was much. He talked about starting up your business and becoming a boss of your own, instead of working for someone and collecting salary (peanut ) at the end of the day. He told us that we kept calling others BOSS which he gave the meaning " Busy Over Someone's Success" , he added that we can start something of our own and become our own boss. The motivation was to good and she cited instances. All what he said was true, but in all what he said he didn't stress that start up capital is necessary which is where you have to work to earn before starting your own, he didn't also stress that consistency is the key and that every business comes with its own risk ooo.
After the conference, my guy who was a private school teacher was more motivated than I did, he told me he was going to quit his job use the little capital that he had saved to start up something. I smiled and asked him how much he had and the amount was a bit funny. I told him ikpa go and continue with your job , save more and if you really want to start business you can quit your job and focus on the business because it will need your time. My guy came up with the second strategy which was to continue with the work and run business alongside, I told him that starting a new business will need his time and he must be consistent , I also reminded him that he was working in a private school which nobody will give him such time. But guy didn't listen , he continued with his business idea, and the work. After 3 months he paused the work , focused on the business, but was not that consistent because he needed cash to keep pushing but the business was not giving such amount. After six months he shot down the business and went job hunting again. God helped him, he got one.
To this end, motivation alone is not enough, but consistency keeps you going.
