Gmail is about to get more dynamic. Alphabet's Google program on Tuesday showed a software programming system that keeps e-mail updated with information and better interactivity.
The user can see the automatically updated flight information in the booking confirmation email. They can fill out the questionnaire without leaving a message, or they can review the close-up of the product by marketing without opening the browser window.
The expected change is a product of Google's AMP project or accelerated mobile page, said Aakash Sahney, product manager who oversees Gmail, on Tuesday's blog.
AMP is a set of programs designed to speed up the loading of web pages by stripping the technology hierarchy.
It has earned accolades from publishers such as Hearst and The Washington Post, making their site more popular with users. But some web developers are worried that Google is making too much of a speech on network operations.
Google is advancing. Gmail integration marks the first broader use of AMP. AMP could also be used by other e-mail service providers, with Google announcing it will hold an AMP-centric conference for software developers in Amsterdam.
The initial version of AMP for email is for bulk senders. For example, a retailer sending weekly sales notifications can ensure that recipients see the current price or availability of items whenever they open an email.
Google's bookmark service Pinterest, scheduling application Doodle and Priceline Group Inc's Booking.com are testing AMP's email.
