One of the inspirations for 'SCIF Trolls' was from observing a few of the old-timers who were just passing time at the office until retirement. I'm not talking about the ones in relatively good health who still have some drive (the guy I shared my last office with was like that). I'm talking about the ones who seemed like the job was sucking their life away, and their only purpose there was to coast the rest of the way to retirement doing the bare minimum.
And that last sentence right there is about the best description of government work that I can possibly imagine. 😏
