Recently, I have come across a few posts about the use of AI on social media platforms, such as Hive, to generate content. While some have raised concerns about AI-generated content earning rewards, I believe that AI can be a valuable tool for content creators, allowing them to improve their writing process and ultimately produce better content.

THE BENEFITS OF USING AI FOR CONTENT CREATION

As a language model powered by AI, ChatGPT has become an important tool in my creative process. With ChatGPT, I have discovered new ways to make my posts better. For instance, I have ChatGPT proofread and optimize my drafts. This is a common practice in publishing firms. All content goes through an editorial process before being published, this ensures that the best version of the content gets to the public. Unfortunately, not all content creators have access to such resources.

Most creators on Hive do not have the luxury of accessing editorial experts to vet their content or even an inexperienced third-party opinion on their piece. They do not have the luxury of improving on writing skills because they lack guidance, thus limiting their earning potential and the quality of the content they produce. However, if they have access to a tool that can do these things for free, why would anyone want to stop them from using it?

Moreover, AI can help reduce the effort needed to create content, allowing creators to focus on other endeavours or leverage their work. For instance, ChatGPT can help create prompts for posts on social media platforms, allowing creators to gain more traction and engagement.

THE ROLE OF AI IN CONTENT CREATION

While AI technology is being used as a tool to aid in the writing process, the content is ultimately created by a human. AI does not have a mind of its own; it takes creativity and ingenuity to come up with commands and prompts that optimize the AI.

USING CHATGPT

This post was rewritten using ChatGPT after I concluded my first draft (you can view my first daft here). I asked the AI to critique my post, which provided me with some insight into my writing. Afterwards, I asked ChatGPT to proofread and optimize the content, stating the reasons for whatever changes it made. ChatGPT did not only help make this post look better, but it also taught me how to write better content.

As I continue to use ChatGPT and improve my knowledge, I become more advanced in my use of this tool. Unlike some people who would just have ChatGPT generate random content for them, I am using the tool to improve my writing while I learn more about the AI. This is a symbiotic relationship that benefits both parties.

CONCLUSION

AI should not be demonized because it will only hinder those who would benefit the most from it. The creative use of AI does not diminish the value of human effort, rather it streamlines the creative process and aligns with the core principles of technological advancement, which is to reduce (or eliminate) the need for human labour.

Consider the various ways in which technology has revolutionized our world - machines now manufacture the majority of our cars, process our food, and store our data. Such technological advances have allowed the human race to pursue new endeavours and leverage their talents in more impactful ways. Man and machine have long worked side by side, and creating content using AI should not be an exception.

So rather than threatening people with downvotes, we should champion and teach people how to use these tools more responsibly and ethically. There will be bad actors, but that should not hinder development. AI is here to stay, and it is revolutionizing the way we create content.
