On most days this is all I get to see--when I am away from my phone which is rarely a thing. There isn't much to see, just rusty roofs and unimpressive buildings.
I lived in this neighborhood for the most part of my life. Most of my friends still live here--i am currently staying with one of them. This feels more like home than any other place I have lived over the last six years. I've been away from my family for over six weeks and barely feel homesick because this is home too. Everything here feels familiar.
So some weeks back I wasn't feeling so great and I confined myself to my house. I thought I had contracted the virus when there were barely 10 cases in Nigeria. Now we are approaching 2,000 recorded cases and a significant number of those cases are from Lagos where I stay. I can't really say how I feel about that. I haven't spent much time thinking or reading corona related posts like I did a couple of weeks ago. For the most part, I have not just isolated myself physically but also mentally. There is this unexplained indifference I feel towards everything. But there are a few days where I have to leave my safe haven to purchase supplies for myself. I took this picture of my street the last time I went out. Nothing much has changed. The street is usually this quiet with little movement.
This is where all the magic happens--on my bed. I spend hours here--on my bed-- each day writing and scrolling through posts. It might not necessarily reflect the number of comments I make every day and that's because I hardly find things that engage my mind.
Now, this is the type that adds color to my day. This is the face I get to see most part of the day--the only face I want to see. And I guess the hardest part of this lockdown is not having to see or touch her skin. It's been 6 weeks? I hope I don't have to wait much longer. No technology can replace real-time physical human interaction.
I haven't had a haircut in 4 weeks and I feel some type of way about it. This is one of the mundane things you get to miss this period. I haven't even had alcohol in a while too. Who would have thought? I probably need one given the type of week I have had.
Normalcy is something everyone craves for at this point, no matter how chaotic normal has been for many people. The fact is: whatever we had prior to this time was familiar--familiar struggles; familiar disappointments; familiar joys. People are willing to give anything for that.
A big shout-out to @runicar for tips and everyone who has supported me this week. It means a lot to me. I do not want to go into much details about what that means. I appreciate everyone who takes their time to read or watch whatever I say. Cheers
