I discovered that the book was written years ago by a Belgian writer and psychoanalyst and that it was only recently translated into my language. I sincerely hope others translate it, because it truly is a small masterpiece, a true literary gem, both for its unique concept and for its flowing yet unconventional writing. In short, this time, I'll say it right away: for me, this book is a ten out of ten. But let's talk about the plot. It all begins in a bunker, inhabited only by women. A mysterious girl, the youngest, has never seen the outside world and observes from her own bizarre perspective all forty other women who share the space with her, a prison that for her is completely normal, having never known other lives like those described by her companions, who to her seem fictional. In the bunker, there is no day or night. The hours are marked by electric lights, meals are more or less always the same, and the women cook. The bathrooms are shared, and they are constantly watched day and night by guards who punish them if they disobey the rules, which are numerous and strange. They have no names, they can't talk to each other much, they have no privacy, they can't touch each other in any way, or even rebel. Their lives are marked by a monotonous confinement. The only new thing is the guards, who occasionally rotate in but obviously can't speak to them; they are the only men they see. The girl is very curious about men because she has never really known any of them well. To her, they are just strange creatures who watch over her and ghosts from her companions' stories. She doesn't know love, and attraction is all abstract.

Descubrí que fue escrita hace años por una escritora y psicoanalista belga y que solo recientemente se tradujo a mi idioma. Espero sinceramente que otros la traduzcan, porque es una pequeña obra maestra, una verdadera joya literaria, tanto por su concepto único como por su prosa fluida y a la vez poco convencional. En resumen, esta vez lo diré sin rodeos: para mí, este libro es un diez sobre diez. Pero hablemos de la trama. Todo comienza en un búnker habitado únicamente por mujeres. Una misteriosa joven, la más joven, nunca ha visto el mundo exterior y observa desde su peculiar perspectiva a las otras cuarenta mujeres que comparten el espacio con ella, una prisión que para ella es completamente normal, pues nunca ha conocido otras vidas como las descritas por sus compañeras, que le parecen ficticias. En el búnker no hay ni día ni noche. Las horas están marcadas por luces eléctricas, las comidas son más o menos siempre las mismas y las mujeres cocinan. Los baños son compartidos y están constantemente vigiladas día y noche por guardias que las castigan si desobedecen las reglas, que son numerosas y extrañas. No tienen nombres, no pueden hablar mucho entre ellas, no tienen privacidad, no pueden tocarse de ninguna manera, ni siquiera rebelarse. Sus vidas están marcadas por un confinamiento monótono. So the women, together with the increasingly amazed and curious girl, after an initial fear begin to explore the surroundings, to move and create small communities around the rivers, but there is no trace of other human beings until they encounter other bunkers and in each bunker men and women, all 40 like them, dead of hunger, closed like them in cages. The journey seen through the eyes of the little bad girls is an adventure but also a torture because the further they go, the more they encounter only abandoned bunkers and no other human beings. These women seem to be the only ones in the world and must organize themselves and create their own society in the midst of these desolate and hopeless lands. I don't want to say anything else to avoid spoilers, but it's a book I highly recommend. It's a thought-provoking book that creates anxiety, curiosity, and tension about this world where humans seem to have disappeared, and about how humans who grow up in a certain environment adapt and adapt. You absolutely must read it!
Pero un día la vida cambia, suena una alarma y un guardia deja abierta la puerta blindada que les da de comer. Todas se sienten desorientadas y asustadas, también porque ninguna sabe por qué han estado prisioneras en su rutina durante años y años, y cuando se encuentran en el mundo exterior todo es diferente: es como un gran desierto y ni rastro de sus opresores. Así que las mujeres, junto con la niña cada vez más asombrada y curiosa, tras un miedo inicial, comienzan a explorar los alrededores, a moverse y a crear pequeñas comunidades alrededor de los ríos, pero no hay rastro de otros seres humanos hasta que se topan con otros búnkeres y en cada búnker hombres y mujeres, los 40 como ellas, muertos de hambre, encerrados como ellas en jaulas. El viaje visto a través de los ojos de las niñas traviesas es una aventura pero también una tortura porque cuanto más avanzan, más búnkeres abandonados encuentran y ningún otro ser humano. Estas mujeres parecen ser las únicas en el mundo y deben organizarse y crear su propia sociedad en medio de estas tierras desoladas y sin esperanza. No quiero revelar nada más para evitar spoilers, pero es un libro que recomiendo muchísimo. Es una obra que invita a la reflexión y que genera ansiedad, curiosidad y tensión sobre este mundo donde los humanos parecen haber desaparecido, y sobre cómo aquellos que crecen en un entorno determinado se adaptan. ¡Sin duda, tienes que leerlo!
