As many of you know, my Mother passed away this past Wednesday and I have been dealing with the funeral arrangements and family issues. I have not been able to post like I normally do as the added stress, on top of having to maintain my job and school-work just has not allowed me to create the content that I feel my followers deserve and have come to expect, so I took a break for a few days.
But I also felt you had to hear this one, so I made time...
See that car right there?
Yup that car is mine. I applied for my drivers licence appeal hearing awhile back, and I just knew I was going to get it. I have been working on my credit as well and have saved up some money. So I figured I would combine the two and take out a line of credit so I could buy a car. I mean I didn't really take out credit. I actually had the money in the bank, I kinda borrowed my own money, let me explain.
I had $3500 in my credit union account that I have saved up over some time. My credit is not that good however. I have a secured credit card that I use just to get some on time payments on my record, but I needed another open line of credit. So here is what I did..
I took out a personal loan for $3500 from my other bank where I have my check direct deposited to buy a car. Now I am going to have my credit union make the loan payments at my bank. This way I will have the appearance of having on time loan payments, when in reality, I am just borrowing my own money and losing some in interest.
Worth it for me to improve my credit that has been shot for many years.
And I mean, they had to give me my license back, right?
Yeah about that...
So the day after I get woke up by the nurse telling me my Mother had passed away, I get the answer from the Drivers Licence Appeal Division.
They denied me!
The reason? They said that because I live in a transitional housing program that I am not in a real world environment because it is controlled. Never mind the fact that I work there and I am not just a resident. Then they said that because all of my letters were from people in recovery, that it didn't represent a real cross section of life because they don't see me everyday. They do see me everyday, I live and work with them! The hearing officer then said that because I admitted that I was not honest the last time I saw them because I had said I was sober when I was not (I admitted this to them when they asked) that I had perjured myself. They didn't catch me, I told them honestly! Then they said that I had a restricted license for 10 years, I have no idea where this came from because it just is not true.
Needless to say, I will be appealing the decision to circuit court!
But see that car right there? It is mine....
Just won't be driving it soon.
Don't worry
As you can see, life has threw me a couple of curve balls lately. My Mom passing was huge, but this is not small either. Please do not worry about me though. The first thing I did when I heard about my Mom was call my sponsor. Same when I got the news about my license. Recovery is not about just when things are going good, but just as much as being able to deal with things when they go bad.
What you do when things are going good, the foundation you build, is what you will turn to when things go south. I am glad I have a solid program, that is for sure.
My sponsor had me do a gratitude list about my life right now, and at first I was like "Are you kidding me?" but then I thought about it. My Mom and I had reconciled and we were talking pretty regular. More important, she had a chance to see me doing really good, and passed away knowing that. As far as the license goes, I just have to accept it wasn't time yet. Soon it will be, but not yet.
God is still good and I have it way better than 98% of the planet. I am thankful.
