Holy week is the days when Christians remembers the suffering and sorrow of Jesus Christ while on earth. It usually begins with Palm Sunday and ends with Easter Sunday. While the Bible does not specifically command Christians to celebrate Holy Week as a yearly tradition, the events remembered during the week are clearly biblical.
The triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, His crucifixion, and His resurrection are all recorded in the Gospels. This is the time believers uses the opportunity to remember and reflect on how Jesus Christ have come to save our soul.
The Bible teaches believers to remember the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus Himself told His disciples,
“Do this in remembrance of me” (Luke 22:19).
Because of this, many Christians believe it is proper to dedicate time to prayer, repentance, fasting, and worship during Holy Week. However, the Bible also warns against empty religious traditions that focus more on outward ceremonies than genuine faith and obedience to God.
