Things around here are pretty boring these days. That's not unusual though. Most of my days are boring. I'd like to do more but I'd have to do them without my wife because she doesn't like to do anything or go anywhere. After being married for more than 43 years, it's hard to do things without her. If I could just get her to take a trip to someplace close, maybe that would break the cycle and she'd start wanting to go.
This is August so I know she will be going someplace in October. We are here in the Philippines in balikbayan status, which means we need to leave at least 1 day per year to be here legally. Before Oct 10th is when we need to go. Usually, we just go to Singapore for a day, then come back the next day. We don't even bother getting a hotel, we just stay at the airport for the 25 hours. I'm hoping for one with less layover time this year. I always hope that but it seems they never change the schedule.
I'd rather be going to Texas. I don't think she'd do that, but to visit my parents, brother, sister, grandsons & friends, I'd go without her. I'd have to be gone at least 1 month but we'd get through it somehow. If I had the money to go to Texas, I would go. I don't see enough money for that though.
I have been wearing my compression socks the last few days. It's amazing how fast you see a difference when wearing them. I've also been putting the lotion on my legs like I was told to do by the doctors. I have not been doing either, mostly because I forget. I'm making an extra effort to remember, and I have Nening (our house lady) to remind me also. In fact, 2-3 times per week I have her put those compression socks on for me. They are difficult to get on especially when I have this big belly to get over. I just had a short pause in typing (I know, you didn't notice) because I was talking to Nening about the socks. She suggested I just get at least 7 pairs of socks and we'll change them every day. Of course, that means extra washing of the socks, but she's the one that suggested it and she's the one that does the laundry, so it's okay with me. The socks come in pairs of 3, so I guess I could just order 2 more sets. Then I'd have 9 pairs of compression socks that actually fit. The ones that I have that are too small I need to get them out of the house. Maybe give them to someone else that wears 2X socks verus the 3X I need to wear. On the other hand, if I lose weight (a big "if" it seems) then I'd need the smaller socks (maybe).
I'm not sure if my legs will every stop swelling up if I don't use the socks. They don't swell up with the socks and, since I've been remembering the lotion also, the rough spots and bumps that were on there are now gone.
Personally, and I have not asked a doctor about this, I think that if I lose weight, then eventually I will not have to wear the compression socks anymore. Probably quite a bit of weight I'd have to lose for that to happen, but I believe it will happen. At least I hope so.
So, anyway, I need to go do something different. Christian, over at Mango Lounge, is always talking about the expats having an excursion. That would be great. Just a bunch of us guys gone for a weekend. I'll be sure to ask him about that again (and again).
I'd also like time to myself for a few days. Maybe I'll try to get that accomplished next month. In October I'll have our trip to, probably Singapore, for the 1 day. We don't do anything except stay at the airport, but there is a Subway at the airport, and I make sure to visit there at least once, usually twice, during our time there.
My wife informed me that she'd like fried chicken from Jollibee's today. That's fine. We have a standing rule here that if she wants fried chicken, she does not have to ask me if I do, the answer is always "Yes". Of course, it has to be fried chicken from some place that I like, not some random chicken place on the side of the road. Jollibee chicken (Chicken Joy) is good. It's at least as good as KFC and almost as good as Popeye's. I'm a bit bias because I prefer the spicy chicken at Popeye's. Everyone doesn't agree with me, but different strokes for different folks is what makes the world go round.

Howdy y’all. It’s me, ninong7 aka UJ aka John. Just a short intro about myself. I am a Texan that has retired in the Philippines. I moved to the Philippines with my wife back in May 2010. I am retired from the US Air Force. The music I like is mostly Classic Country and Classic Rock. I guess you could say that I am “Classic”. I play dominoes when I can find someone that will play, I play chess, cribbage, spades, hearts, Empire Builder, Rail Baron, Acquire and a few other games. I like to write poems and stories (although pretty novice) and I love learning about history, just about any history. I’m at home on my computer a lot but if I could afford to, I’d be traveling and documenting my travels to post in my blog. I hope to get to know a lot of you through PeakD and Discord.
