A few days ago while organizing archives and reviewing old photos I came across some work that I had done a long time ago and had forgotten about, these are photographic practices that I got to do when I started attending some basic photography workshops.
If there is something that I am so passionate about and for which I have come to feel a lot of respect, it is photography. Respect becoming almost fear, because it would hurt me to say or do things that represent it poorly, I like that when something is about this kind of art it is always exceptional, because inside me it has a lot of meaning.
The thing is that I rarely decide to talk honestly about it, it is a very precious part of me and I do not like it to be exposed, that desire to someday be able to have the necessary tools to move through the wonderful world of photographers, but those real ones, who not only know the technical aspect in detail but feel through each shot and who manage to merge with their cameras.
During my first university years I ventured into that world, discovering an amazing amount of elements that make it up and that I wanted to absorb avidly. It is evident that I could not give myself to it as I would have liked because if I had, I would not be writing these words.
For many reasons I could not devote myself to satisfy all my curiosity or to build a path that would prosper within that universe, I had to settle only with short visits that I enjoyed like no one else and in which, having clear that it would be impossible to move towards that goal at that moment, I devoted myself mainly to comfort myself through the experience of great photographers who taught me their exciting work and how it was to live always with something so beautiful.
I took sporadic classes for short periods of time that I could afford to invest and I treasured every minute. I learned to control some equipment and to play with the eye of the camera so that I could reflect what was drawn in my mind, enjoying with a childlike illusion each practice and each project that we were asked to develop.
I remember clearly when we were introduced to the concepts of depth of field and the enormous potential of the macro world, a concept that I fell in love with immediately and that I would have loved to explore in much more detail but that as a simple enthusiast, without being able to consider myself even a beginner in photography, was something practically impossible to do, by clearly technical and socio-cultural means.
I remembered all this because I came across photographic memories of one of the activities I most enjoyed in those days, which was creating stories of miniature objects while making my attempts to approach depth of field projections by playing with that false "macro" available in compact cameras which was the only tool I had at my disposal at the time.
So remembering those times I rescued some small elements I had around at home and decided to use one to recall those sensations.
The idea comes from a project we were asked to do at the end of a course, which was to create a video that told a story through several photographs showing the basic techniques we had learned during those elementary classes. I was fascinated by it and instead of choosing a human as the protagonist I decided to focus my attention on a miniature doll so I could make it detail shots in which to abuse the perspective to get very vaguely close to the striking macros that I knew I couldn't achieve, but that made me feel very good.
Too bad that at that time I didn't have places like this where to share experiences and advances in a safe way because most of those works have been distributed in a public way in some virtual spaces and audiovisual media, but maybe someday I will be able to choose correctly and show part of them.
One of the things I liked the most about playing with objects in this way was the melancholic, mysterious or surprising character that I could give to an inanimate element, so with a photograph alone and without the need to describe it I could transmit very representative sensations that this little protagonist would never be able to feel.
So today I had a brief free moment and I dedicated myself to relive that creative process of conceiving an idea associated with the element that made me more graceful of those I found and remember the sensations that filled me with emotion when interacting with such an accommodating and versatile model.
I wanted to use the motorcycle because it always seemed to me an element with very nice colors, I got the dolls from the typical RoscĂłn de reyes that usually bring these surprises inside and when I get them I keep them.
And when I tried to take the first picture I quickly evoked the idea of a misunderstood and nostalgic character who tried to be like others but was not accepted (blame the real motorcycles in the background).
It tried to fit not only into what it believed to be its world but also into that of others, but it was always rejected.
And though it tried to find its way and search endlessly, it never found it.
Because the reality was that the destiny of that destiny did not belong to him but was in the hands of another, as happens to many.
The end.
Fin.
Clearly I am very bad at telling written stories, so I prefer to do it through images. I am also aware that the quality of the images is not the best and that there are many details that can be improved, but this was just a way to remember good times and evoke those emotions that I missed so much.
It has helped me to consider the option of resuming this practice that I like so much and finally give it a significant place in my life, I hope I can do it.
I take advantage of the post to make a small report of the diet that goes from strength to strength, I have decided to change the donuts for fruit tarts, I do not know if it will be healthier but surely more refreshing for the heat.
Greetings!
¡Saludos!
