I love seeing movies a lot especially Nollywood love movies. You might think I'm old fashioned to love Nollywood love movies right? I have my reasons though!
I love satisfying my fantasies and used to wish that the love scenes I see there happen to me in my real life relationship馃檭
I'm glad I've outgrown this part of me!
I see these Nollywood love movies and at the end of it all, I analyse the whole story and just giggle... I see them as high fiction if there's any word like that馃檪
I enjoy seeing them a lot for entertainment quite true, but I do not expect most things that happen there to come to reality in my own relationship especially for the fact that I'm a typical Igbo lady who would also get involved in a romantic relationship with an Igbo guy someday..
A Nollywood love movie that I saw sometime ago, was all about a guy who loved his wife so much that he never forgets to serve her breakfast in bed every morning before leaving for work .. Hmmm!
The lady in question was told by her husband not to work or do anything business.. Literally she was not working for her money but had everything at her beck and call.. This is the point where I ask God when?馃槄
Seeing this was quite sweet but which Nigerian guy would do that for me every morning? Not that Igbo guys do not love so dearly, serving their spouses breakfast in bed might be their thing once in a while but doing that every morning can never be their thing at all.. NEVER!
I love fantasies a lot too! I can't dispute that fact but relating it to my love life, wisdom must be applied.. If not, I would have lots of problems or feel like my man do not love me if my expectations are not met in real life especially with the breakfast in bed thing.
These romantic movies and novels are some times deceptive.. I mean, we can enjoy them for fun but allowing them get into our heads will be very bad. I remember how I used to think that every lady who gets pregnant should normally rush into the bathroom to vomit some white substances from their mouth (nausea pregnancy symptom) If you watch Nollywood movies so well, you'll agree with me that this is the particular scene they show us when a lady is pregnant in the movie 馃槀
This particular one got into my head and I saw it as a compulsory thing with every pregnant lady in real life.. But this is not so!
Another movie scenario that got me thinking was a guy who thanks his wife with bouquets and some cash for doing every chores in the house. He thanked her with a bouquet and cash for doing the dishes, doing the laundry, cleaning the house and even for making the meals.. Like really?馃ぃ
These chores are for me to do as a wife if I do not want to get some domestic staffs and if in real life my husband want to appreciate me for that, I don't think it will come in that manner.. A simple Thank you for doing the chores would be the normal thing to do right? Or a help from him with the chores right?
If I do not understand that these romantic movies are fiction, I would start craving for such to happen to me as well and if my man does not meet up with my expectations, I'll feel like he doesn't love me. This would eventually do a lot of harm to our relationship too. . So you see, these movies raise our hopes and expectations very high and if in turn we don't get it the exact way we expected them to come, it will cause a lot of disappoinment and heartache.
The earlier we have a rethink about the romantic movies we watch and the novels we read and see them as fiction stories, the healthier our relationship in the real world!
