Being a parent is something we all wish to experience at least once in our lives. Some of us have been able to achieve us while others are still setting the foundation to get to that stage and make the transition easy. As much as we all want to be parents, we need to know and understand that parenting isn’t a one way street and there’s really no manual for it.
Having kids is literally a full time job and I say this because I’ve seen how people have had to give up on everything just to take care of their kids. Kids are one of the biggest blessings on earth and everyone wants their kids to turn out well and be a good adult in every society they find themselves. One thing about children is that they all come differently just like every human being out there.
Everyone of them has something special about them and what works and what doesn’t work for them. You may have about 4 kids and your way of parenting will be different for all four of these kids. We don’t know how parents do it but it just happens like magic. Understanding kids can be tough but once you get a hang of it, it’s a lot better to be there for them and navigate the road with them.
I grew up in a home that was very open and orderly. We knew what we could do or not do. They weren’t necessarily rules, but we came to meet them and we just fit right into it. When I was younger I used to be a very stubborn kid and that made my mom beat me sometimes which my dad didn’t like. My dad preferred to talk to me but at some point, talking wasn’t going to do it. I needed to be caned a bit and then rewarded also.
I have friends where were so stubborn they were beaten like kids. Funny enough, that didn’t really work for them. I believe punishment and reward system are both very important and necessary in raising kids. There needs to be a balance between them. You correct them the right way and let them understand why what they did was wrong and its effects on themselves and others. Then you reward them for the good things they do, no matter how random it is. That way, they won’t feel like they’re a burden or they aren’t good enough.
A child who is always made to feel like he’s the problem will grow up to be a timid kid and a child with low self confidence and we all don’t wish to raise such kids in today’s world. We need our children to know what is right and wrong and also be able to think for themselves and stand for the right thing at all time. Punishment and reward can coexist. Just make sure to have a balance between both. This way, we can raise the best generation of future leaders.
