People always say marriage isn’t a bed of roses but those of us who are not married will not fully comprehend it until we get married. From what I’ve seen and heard, marriage is hard and no one should have to do this marriage thing with a partner who’s not ready to stand up for them, both in their presence and absence.

I’ve heard of situations where ladies and even men are subjected to torture by their in-laws and other family members of their partner. Most at times we ladies tend to fall victim to such situations but that doesn’t mean men don’t also experience this.

This is my entry to the second topic for this weeks #ladiesofhive community contest.

Nowadays, premarital sex is rampant among young people. What if you got pregnant, and encountered rude in-laws with a partner who is incapable of standing by himself or standing up for you? Would you rather endure their maltreatment, or walk out on your relationship and raise your child alone? Why?

First of all, I wouldn’t even accept to be with a partner who lacks self confidence. Someone who lacks self confidence will constantly allow himself to be walked over and taken advantage of most especially by their family because they mostly find it hard to stand up to them.

But let’s assume the situation was different and I find myself in situation where my partner can’t stand up for us both and I’m being treated badly by his family. At this point in my life, I’ve been through a lot and I’ve learnt my lessons the hard way. One thing I wouldn’t allow to happen to me is to allow myself be treated badly by other people.

In a situation like this, I’d prefer to walk away from the relationship than stay and endure maltreatment from other people which could possibly have effects on my pregnancy or even worse. There are so many women out there who have lost their lives all because they failed to walk away from a toxic relationship just because they cared so much about what society will say about them. Whatever you do in life there will always be people out there to talk about it so why not put yourself first. No one deserves to be maltreatment by their in-laws or any other person so I’d save myself the shame and pain and walk away from the relationship.

Whatever be the case, I know that I have a family who cares about me and would always be there for me no matter what. No one died from raising a child alone and this wouldn’t be the first time it’s happening. It’s best to be alive for your kid than dead.
