Forget Toilet Paper, I’d Grab These When Nature Unleashes Fury
I don’t quite remember the full details of what happened, just pieces of the whole situation. But at everyone family gathering where my younger cousin is present one of my family members is bound to bring the topic up. Funny enough, I like to attribute the events of that particular day to her stubbornness. On the day my younger cousin was born there was a heavy rain that got our house flooded. That was and is the only disaster that has ever befallen us in the history of our family.

The funny thing is about this whole flood was that the mother with new born baby were still in the room sitting on their bed with all that was going on while others where busy trying to get the water out of the rooms. By the next day, there was no water. I like to believe this wasn’t a normal happening because my grandfathers house where we were staying then has never been flooded before and I would like to believe there were heavier rains before that particular one. In the heat of the moment then, from what I heard and can remember,no one had the change to grab much. All focus was on protecting us kids and new born baby with her mother. The flood wasn’t that bad so much wasn’t lost. I remember how my mom carried my younger sister and I and placed us on the bed with strict warnings not to move. Today, we all sit and laugh about the events of that day.
In this life, somethings are unexpected yet they are bound to happen. We never know when a natural disaster is going to occur. Some we might be prepared for, others we might not and that may in the long run go a long way to affect our lives in one way or the other. Currently, I stay alone in a different region and so I would use my current state of living as an example. In the case of a natural disaster, say a fire outbreak or a flood what three things am I going to grab. I would first opt to grab my life but then, I’m meant to be safe at the end of the day in this scenario so I guess that doesn’t count.😅
There are many things that are dear to me but obviously in a situation like this I wouldn’t be able to grab everything all at once. It will be best to pick things which will be easy to carry. One thing that plays a very important role in my life currently is my phone. I have most of my documents on my phone and a lot of important stuff I wouldn’t want to lose. So obviously, I’d grab my phone first in this situation. I don’t mind losing my pc if I’m able to keep my phone.
Next I would pick up my documents and certificates which I have packed in one file. It’s easy to carry and so that would be next on my list. This file contains very important documents of mine and losing it would really affect me at this point in my life. I have soft copies of most of these documents in case of anything but having the original copy is always the best.
Last on my list, I would grab some clothes. Obviously, if it is a natural disaster I’m most likely going to come back to little or none of the things I left behind. I wouldn’t want to have only one clothing to wear after all is said and done. I should at least have some clothes to change into after this disaster so I’m going to pick a bag with some clothes in it.
In doing all these, I’d make sure to not lose my life because with me dead, none of these things would be important to me.😅 In summary, I would pick up my phone, my file containing important documents and a bag of clothes in case of a natural disaster. How about you?
